Negotiating with the #1 pick.

I don't pay attention to the #1 pick very much since I was 2 months old the last time we had one.

So if you're the Chiefs, are you negotiating with the #1 pick now? Are you negotiating with 2 or 3 guys? Are you negotiating with one guy and telling him that you're negotiating with 2 or 3 to get more leverage?

It seems like the #1 pick has a bit of a disadvantage if negotiations start early, because if he's unreasonable then the team can just say, "Screw you. We're taking that other offensive lineman instead." There's no other pick where the negotiations can be taken off the table, and in all other picks the inherent advantage goes to the player since the team can't withdraw the pick.

So what's the deal? Do teams play the field on the #1 pick, or do they just go after their guy?

And I guess this assumes that there's no clear #1 pick.

We've had the #1 before?

Buck Buchanan. But times were a little different then. We probably just stashed him in a hotel room and gave him a six-pack and a convertible.

who is to know?

Let's hope this team doesn't use high picks like the previous clowns

This title mislead me.

I'm back to be being disappointed

Basically, the Chiefs put the pick up for sale.

A few teams come calling with offers, the ones the Chiefs are interested in doing business with are contacted and everything becomes a test to see if the two sides have a chance at agreeing.

It's basically like trying to fill a job vacancy.

Oh. My bad. That was an unintentionally misleading thread title.

There really isn't much need to negotiate anymore with the new CBA.

No apology needed.

I can't believe that the NFL wouldn't want the news of our pick to remain secret for maximum interest for their prime time broadcast Thursday night...

I remember when teams could negotiate with a player when the team was on the clock.

The result? The Chiefs discovered that Trezelle Jenkins would sign for a huge discount (surprise!) at the Chiefs pick because he realized nobody else would touch him that high in the draft. That worked out well for us...
