Pest Mock - 03/14
I'm copying Direckshun's offseason and redoing his mock draft since it was horribad.
Quote:
3.87. - Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin - The signing of Sanders allows the need to draft a WR to get pushed out of the 1st round. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't draft one though. Bowe isn't going to be here for too much longer (1-2 years max) and Avery is expendable at any time. Abbrederis's strength is route running. Andy and Alex will love that. 4.119. - Terrence Brooks, S, Florida State - Commings will get every opportunity to win the FS job but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be given legitimate competition. 5.151. - Philip Gaines, CB, Rice - I think this team is going to roll with Smith, Cooper and Parker as their starting CBs after Flowers is cut next offseason. I don't see them taking one in the 1st round unless someone like Gilbert fell to #23. 6.177. - Spencer Long, G, Nebraska - Won't be ready for the 2014 season due to a torn ACL, but using this season as a red shirt year could give us a damn good OG in 2015. 6.183. - A.C. Leonard, TE, Tennessee State - The athletic ability is there but he will need time to transition to the NFL. |
QB: Smith, Daniel, Bray
RB: Charles, Davis, Gray FB: Sherman WR: Bowe, Sanders, Avery, Abbrederis, Jenkins TE: Kelce, Fasano, Leonard LT: Stephenson/Fisher LG: Allen, Long C: Hudson, Kush RG: Colledge, Long RT: Fisher/Stephenson DE: DeVito, Bailey NT: Poe, Who the **** cares DE: Walker, Catapano OLB: Hali, Ford ILB: Mays, Johnson ILB: Johnson, Williamson OLB: Houston, Zombo CB: Flowers, Smith, Cooper, Parker, Gaines S: Berry, Commings, Abdullah, Brooks K: Succop P: Colquitt LS: Gafford |
Yes I realize that it kind of ****s us on the RG spot....but I'm interested in seeing what they think they have in their guys. They could move Hudson....they could move Kush....or they could start Johnson.
|
You know what....I'm changing something......hold on.
|
I don't think it's going to be Penn. I think we'd go with someone like Colledge who can fill in that RG role.
|
I'd like to see them do something to boost the NT position. Poe wore out as the season went on. Guy can't play 90% of the snaps in a season.
I really like Dee Ford, but I keep getting this nagging feeling that he doesn't have the physicality to man OLB in the 3-4. Hopefully you're right. Really like Abbrederis, Brooks, and Gaines. I think Brooks ends up as your starter, however, over Commings and Abdullah. I really waffle on Leonard. He reeks of Kris Wilson won't-have-a-spot-in-the-NFL to me. But he is a far superior athlete, so who knows. |
That's a very solid draft. And to get Dee Ford at that spot, would be something.
I don't think they could pass on that. Cant take a chance, however unlikely that it is, that both Hali, and Houston could go down again together.. |
Only thing I hesitate on when it comes to Ford is his lack of elite measurables(arm length, etc). Fantastic character and dedication to the game though. Pretty much like Jordan Matthews in his preparation.
|
Guy can bend the **** out of the corner, too.
Just... seems more like a 4-3 OLB than a 3-4 OLB. Goddamn it I'm a nerd. |

other than the short arms. His lean, and burst screams pass rushing 3-4 |
His smaller frame won't hold up in the run game, but it will thrive in space.
That screams more Von Miller than it does Justin Houston. |

I think this guy is more of a beefier set than him. I don't know. I think it could go either way. I think a 4-3 hurts his natural pass rushing ability a little bit. |
Hasn't hurt Miller's.
But good point on Mingo. I'll keep rethinking. |
Pretty interesting comparison.
Mingo: 6'4", 241, 34" arms, didn't bench, 4.58 40, 37" vertical, 10'8" broad, 6.84 3 cone Ford: 6'2", 252, 33" arms, 29 reps, 4.59 40, 35" vertical, 10'4" broad, 7.06 3 cone |
Not bad. I like the first three picks OK. I really like Abberderis. I like Ford but if we are going to take an OLB I wish it would be Attachu (sp?) from Georgia Tech. If we go OLB in the first (or second), I hope it's because we traded back.
