It's a great speech. Moves me whenever I hear it.

My God. That was 18 years ago?

doomy3 11-30-2011 10:19 PM

I make it a point to watch this every year during this week. I lost my Dad to cancer when I was a freshman in college, so this speech always makes me emotional. One of the best speeches I've ever seen.

I hadn't heard it in a few years but I've seen it several times and it made the room dusty again tonight. 5th anniversary of my dad succuming to his 3rd bout with cancer is coming up on January 5th. Long live the spirit of Jimmy V.

Wow. Thanks for posting this, as I had never seen it. It really moved me. I too have lost family to that horrible disease. God I hope someday soon they find a cure.

I looked it up and he died 8 short weeks after giving that speach.

But you could tell everyone in that room knew he wouldn't be around much longer and why his speach was so moving.

Glad you got to see it finally then. I think everyone needs to hear that speech and take it to heart. It far transcends college basketball or sports in general. Some things just need to be said by someone who can deliver the message like Jimmy did and heard by everyone who will listen. jmo.

One of the greatest speeches of all time.

I always love the part about him messing up the pregame speech and I love the Remember where you been know where you are and know where you are going part. Always important for me to remember the shit I used to do compared to the good stuff now.

My favorite part... other than the obvious stuff.

Classy guy...love his brother on the radio too.

I saw this speech when it happened, the day he died here in NC everybody was burning their headlights during the day in his honor.

I saw the National Championship he won against Houston. I remember Derrick Whittenberg throwing the airball up that he called a pass and Lorenzo Charles slamming it home at the buzzer... Lorenzo Charles died June 27, 2011 (aged 47)

Sorry to hear that my mom went through 2 bouts before passing away it's very tought to watch and it takes a lot of courage for someone to fight through cancer.
