Hard to swallow.

What a horrible draft. Glad I didn't stick around for the whole thing. I would have wasted valuable time. Reid is a complete moron. Never go all in on a guy like Alex Smith. Your offseason is a complete joke.

Annoyed at the lack of QB in this draft, but I'll take a wait and see approach. I'd be surprised if Foles remains an Eagle for long.

Why would you pick a QB when you have the All-Star crew of Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, and Ricky Stanzi?

Trading for ALex Smith wasnt a bad idea. Giving up the #34 and next years 2nd was.

keg in kc 04-27-2013 04:14 PM

I don't think that was ever in any question. People were paying too much attention to the fact that he hasn't been extended yet, and not enough to the insane draft pick compensation we gave up for him. He's always been the long-term plan.

Well they did give up a lot. You do realize the #34 pick is as close to a 1st rd pick as you can get. and of course next years 2nd.

The last thing Dorsey wants is some mid to late rd rookie QB hot on the heels of the guy you just gave up two 2nd rd picks for. I think getting Chase Daniels squashed any intention of drafting a QB.

MTG#10 04-27-2013 04:15 PM

We don't know what we don't have next year. It's either a 3rd or a 2nd.

I'll laugh if the condition is making the playoffs and the Chiefs make the wildcard and get blown up by the Broncos or some other team with a competent QB.

He'll be here long enough to get Reid and Dorsey fired. It's an exact repeat from the last regime and will have the same results. But at least the beer and ticket prices will have gone up substantially by then to pay for all the mediocre free agents that were signed.

This QB draft class is so unbelievably bad that teams with established top of the league QBs like the Steelers, Giants, and Chargers decided to take a chance on them.

Alex will be the starter as long as Reid is here, unless he dies or is so injured he retires.

Reid loves Alex like Peeoli loved Cassel. The fact that Reid has admitted to an admiration of Alex even when he was a bust should be all you need to know, sadly. The fact that they are both Mormons apparently is just icing on the cake.

KC ain't taking another "legitimate" QB until Alex is injured badly, sh*ts the bed, retires, or Reid is fired.

Give me a break. They didn't take a chance on a QB. The 4th round is a terrific place to take a backup and they got a GREAT QB value at that point in the draft. If we're talking about guys we want to start tomorrow and be our 10-year franchise QB, yeah I wanted a QB, but I'm not going to get butthurt because we didn't take a 3rd day QB.

Am I concerned? Of course I am. I don't like Alex Smith. But I'm also not going to overrate the value of a 3rd day QB.

mcaj22 04-27-2013 04:34 PM

in 4-5 years the next rebuild will actually be a rebuild because every foundation piece on this team will be passed their prime

so we might get a full overhaul next time instead of this patchwork rebuild we are getting with drafting role players and signing FA veterans. But it's a long wait until then.

chiefzilla1501 04-27-2013 04:36 PM

I'll believe Alex Smith is their long-term answer when I see it.

What I believe is that Andy Reid is going to open up the offense, he's going to throw a ton, and he's going to want to go vertical. Alex Smith isn't going to be asked to be a game manager. He'll either sink or swim. I think he'll sink and that we have enough quality QB coaches who will understand what we have. I also think almost every QB in this class (possibly all of them) will never amount to anything but an Alex Smith level starter at best. It was just a terrible year to be in the QB market.

Back when the Chiefs were expected to win the AFC West and people were actually giving Pioli some love for what he did in FA and the draft.

In hindsight...

This. Shame we wasted Herm's best picks on this ****ing garbage. I was really looking forward to Bowe finally breaking out with a legit QB. Oh well, at least the man soldiered and got paid. I was never excited about Reid and the draft has only reinforced the stone-cold truth that time and the game have passed him by.

It's pretty clear at this point that Alex was the best move we could have made unless we were going to hope for another 2-14 season next year. As long as they don't give him an extension before he shows that he doesn't suck, I'm fine with it.

He hasn't showed he sucks already?

Cassel played 1 year, and it was a decent year before being traded to the Chiefs. He was fairly unknown.

Alex Smith on the other hand has been in the league for 8 years and hasn't done shit.

This shouldn't surprise you, the moment Glazer broke the trade story on NFL network he flat out said Andy Reid loves Alex Smith and they wouldn't draft a QB because Reid didn't want Smith to have another Kaepernick situation. Reid loves Smith as the franchise guy.

Again, I'm not crazy about Foles, but I don't think he's any more or less of a prospect than the guys we passed on the third day. So I'm okay with this as well. And I don't care if it takes a third day to take him, because that's what we would have burned to bring in a guy like Tyler Wilson.

Alex Smith is not a Mormon. He was born is Seattle, grew up in San Diego, and went to the non-affiliated school in Utah. He lived in Utah for two school seasons as an athlete. He has been confirmed not to be Mormon by others.

I grew up in Utah and have seen articles in the past stating that he wasn't. I'm not a Mormon either. I'm new here so I'm not allowed to post links and don't want to go around the rule by adding spaces or anything to hide them. Look it up, it's out there.

This is just speculation by some, most of whom don't like Alex Smith as their QB. I wouldn't take this as a hurts feelings things on just that. They did sign Bray to a low contract undrafted, but I've heard that was just to piss of Miami for offering so little for Albert. Miami was reported to have reached an agreement with them.

Considering how stacked next year's draft looks (Clowney, Bridgewater, and Manziel in the top 3 alone places it over this year's) that's not exactly a horrible fate. Hell, I would love it if the Chargers went 0-16 this year to guarantee Clowney coming to San Diego.

That's all

I disagree.

It's Clark you should be mad at. IMO, he told Andy to win and win now and when they looked at things and in their opinion didn't feel anyone in the draft could do that immediately they went with Alex.

As far as the rest of the off season, they have built this offense around the QB to use his skill set (or lack thereof). OL, TE, more depth @ RB/FB. One WR in Avery to try and stretch the D.

This is how Reid thinks he can be most competitive and win now. Is it gonna bring a SB win to KC? I doubt it. But like I've said before, I don't have the blinders on with Andy. I think he can rebuild, make the Chiefs competitive again and then I'm hoping in 3-5 years a young up and coming assistant takes over and between him and Dorsey make the changes to a more new age "wave" NFL team.

Who's been benched for Shaun Hill, David Carr, Troy Smith, J.T. O'Sullivan, and Colin Kaepernick: Philip Rivers, or Alex Smith?

Who has an atrocious 2-27-1 record in games where the other team scores 24+ points: Philip Rivers, or Alex Smith?

I like when you debate with an Alex Smith supporter the first 6 years don't count, but suddenly when all the pieces are in place the last 1.5 seasons in his career are the only ones that count. Let's not rule out that for years he faced the weakest division in the entire NFL.
