Brent Salazar (Assistant Strength & Conditioning) – Salazar begins his seventh season in Kansas City as the assistant strength and conditioning coach (2007-13). Prior to joining the Chiefs, he spent one year (2006) as the assistant director of athletic performance at the University of the Pacific. He was responsible for designing and implementing the training regimens for seven different varsity sports during his time with the Tigers. The Denver, Colo., native served as a graduate intern at UNLV in 2005. Salazar assisted the Rebels’ strength and conditioning staff in their regimen with the football team. He was directly responsible for overseeing the training program for the men’s tennis squad and men’s soccer team. Salazar originally started working in the NFL as an intern for the Denver Broncos during the 2005 NFL offseason.

Harris reunites with coach Reid and Dorsey

The Kansas City Chiefs made a key addition to their coaching staff on Friday, naming Al Harris as defensive assistant/secondary coach.

The two-time Pro Bowl player, Al Harris begins his first full season as an NFL assistant coach in Kansas City, joining the staff of his first NFL head coach, Andy Reid.

But wait, it gets even better.

Harris played for coach Reid from 1999-2002 and was later acquired by the Green Bay Packers personnel team that included current Chiefs general manager John Dorsey.

“We are happy to add Al to our staff,” Reid said. "Al's playing experience over 15 years will bring a unique perspective for our players.”

Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round (169th overall) of the 1997 NFL Draft, Harris went on to play in 194 games (128 starts) with Philadelphia (1998-02), Green Bay (2003-09), Miami (2010) and St. Louis (2011).

The former All-Pro selection spent two seasons (1993-94) at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. He then transferred to Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1995-96) and was a first-team All-Lone Star Conference pick in his senior season.

The best part of this offseason is that we got a GM and elite coaches who have proven that they can coach/find talent for our 2 biggest needs on the team: QB and CB.

I think Al Harris is the first guy I can remember seeing with the dreads sticking all out from under his helmet. This doesn't mean anything but it's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear his name.

Cool, I always liked Al Harris as a player.

Grooming Al to take over for Emmitt in not that many years if I were to guess. Love this hire!

God damn...this coaching staff is ridiculous.

Chiefs are going to be a pressure defense. All Harris has done is play bump and run.

He never left.


In the coaches being hired blog on the Chiefs website...Thomas, Gibbs & Salazar are mentioned along with Harris & others'.

They're gonna be aggressive on both sides of the ball.

It may work, it may not.

But it's a 180-degree change from the last 4 years and because of that, I LOVE IT.

Are you serious? Both Carr and Flowers became better DB's under Thomas. I don't know if that's from his coaching or simply from experience, but it happened under his watch, so rightfully he gets credit.

Berry hasn't improved much since he came into the league a stud(yes, the injury)

Carr and Flowers cut their teeth before Thomas got here for the most part


The secondary as a whole has looked pretty sloppy in recent years.

well yeah, if they scout and draft a real talent in the secondary with actual potential and a high ceiling. I believe Thomas can definitely groom him

but what can Thomas honestly do with a midget slot CB that looks like hes running in quicksand, a 5th round safety that whiffs with his shoulder and can never stay on the field, and another 4th? 5th? round CB that is completely lost in coverage.

not to mention the stop gap veterans, Stanford Routt, Abe Elam, Jon McGraw, Sabby Pissinshitti. What was Emmitt Thomas going to do with all these turds.

He literally has Eric Berry and Brandon Flowers and that is it for talent.

The secondary hasn't looked bad, its been the weak links who have made it look bad. Its been our backup CB's or Safeties that give up most of the huge plays. You know, the shit guys we picked up from bad teams. Obviously bad players if bad team let them go.
