"The Chiefs wasted that timeout. With simple clock mismanagement, the Chiefs cost the offense 40 seconds. In the NFL, 40 seconds is like a reprieve from the governor.

Tuesday, it got much worse. You know I love Gunther, but the guy stood up at his press conference and defended that revolting timeout. He said, "With the 45-second clock, I figured they weren't going to run another play (before the 2-minute warning)."

Yep, that makes perfect sense except THE NFL HAS A 40-SECOND CLOCK. Everybody knows that. Small children know that. Certain breeds of dog know that.

"The players were confused... we explained it to them," Cunningham said.

Who was confused? And exactly what did they explain? That nobody on the sidelines can add or subtract? That the coaches cost them the game?

It was the single dumbest play of the season. Dumber than Grbac throwing the ball short of the end zone. Dumber than Chester McGlockton jumping offside. Dumber than not going for two in San Diego." <BR>

Wolf,

You are correct, and I have also cited this as evidence that our coaching staff is out to lunch.

Luz
this was incredibly inept...

Gunter Cunningham has been in way over his head since day one. The chiefs wasted a lot of time in the last 3 minutes Monday night. The wasted timeout and then the QB keeper on the first play. Chiefs PROBABLY win that game had they eliminated those gaffes. Unfortunately, these things seem to be the norm for the Chiefs.

All I needed was MORE evidence to convince me.... Actually, this one slipped by me but Luz has been screaming about it for a couple of days. Nice catch, Luz. Some of the strongest words I've seen Poz use. He's right - Hasty should be in charge of TO's.

But the rules are different for Gun...45 second clock, you don't go for two when your down by 2, you have your OC call plays where not all your receivers are in or near the end zone...etc...

The thing that I liked in the article was what Poz said about Grbac...it was a dumb play but at least it was in the heat of the game...it's called instinct...a QB sees an open receiver and throws the ball...a receiver sees a ball coming to him and catches it...

Gun needs a lot of sleep...
