WHITLOCK: Sports gets so much attention, and people tune out the real world, that I try to take advantage of the opportunity to talk about the real world when sports lends itself to that and try to open people’s eyes. You know, I did not go as far as I’d like to go because my thoughts on the NRA and America’s gun culture – I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, uh, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests [at heart].

I think it’s obvious if you’ve traveled abroad, and traveled to countries where they have legitimate gun laws, that we don’t have to have what we have in America, where people somehow think a gun enhances their liberty, and that people somehow think a gun makes them safer. It just doesn’t. A gun turns some kids listening to music into a murder scene. And uh, you know, if you don’t have a gun, you drive home. You know, kids listening to some loud music, you don’t like it, you go home and complain to your wife. But when you have a gun, you open fire, potentially, and take the life of a child.

translation: there's no personal responsibility for the choices a person makes in this life, it's societies fault for an individual's bad behavior. So let's punish everyone for the violent acts of some kids.

I can't stand this crap. Hey Whitlock, why don't you find the parents of these kids and hold the parents responsible? Now it's the NRA's fault for gang violence instead of individuals in the gangs?

Costas had to wallow in it again last night. He should learn to just stop talking .

On MSNBC last night Bob Costas tried to clarify his remarks on gun control in an interview with host Lawrence O’Donnell, but moved into more controversial territory regarding the right to own guns in America.

Costas was defensive about his brief discussion of guns in the Sunday Night Football broadcast where he read aloud a portion of a controversial column by sportswriter Jason Witten about gun control. Costas insisted that he wasn’t talking about the Second Amendment, but rather the “gun culture” in America.

“It demonstrates itself in the Wild West, Dirty Harry mentality of people who actually believe that if a number of people were armed in the theater in Aurora, they would have been able to take down this nut-job in body armor and military style artillery,” he explained, using the tragic theater shooting in Colorado to make his point.

Costas added that this dangerous gun culture had affected the sports world, where “young athletes are disproportionately armed.”

people love to defend 'their right' to own a gun but hate 'the right' of people to talk about the subject.

If I opposed your right to breathe oxygen, would you want to discuss it rationally? Would you be willing to compromise, and say, only breathe oxygen in limited amounts, after obtaining permission from the government, but only if you were carrying your oxygen card?

it's funny that you compare owning a gun to the right to breathe because some people act like that's the case

Well some of us don't seem to mind living at the mercy of others. Some of us do.

This is a big deal to me. The biggest deal. I'll listen your arguments on taxation, abortion, school prayer, whatever, and hear you out. That's fine. But if you oppose my right to defend myself, you are my enemy, and you can go ****ing die. The End.

They should be considered an enemy of the state and treated accordingly.
