Do route canals hurt as bad as they say?

Just found out I have a ****ing cavity. I've never had one before and my gf is trying to tell me they hurt like a bitch when they fix it (I think she's agging me on).

Any advice? Laughing gas or just take the needle to numb the pain?

Oh, I hate going to the dentist too. That really can't help.

pr_capone 11-06-2012 01:40 AM

No. Barely felt anything but pressure the entire time.

fire_egoli 11-06-2012 02:11 AM

suck it up

lostcause 11-06-2012 02:14 AM

Route canals can be dealt with, Routt canals cost almost 10 million bucks and leave you without a starting corner.

ClevelandBronco 11-06-2012 02:27 AM

Stay away from barge routes and you shouldn't get hurt.

Saccopoo 11-06-2012 02:38 AM

Jesus...

It's a cavity, not a root canal.

The dentist is going to drill and fill for three minutes and be done with it.

Quit being a ****ing pussy.

I had all four wisdom teeth out at once, threw the Motrin the Army dentist gave me in the trash and went out for steak and vodka that night.

Are you serious? A single ****ing cavity? And it's depositing sand granules in your vag?

COME AFTER ME - I'M A MAN - I'M 40

Silock 11-06-2012 03:25 AM

Cavities are not root canals. That being said, root canals don't hurt at all because they yank the nerve out.

UK_Chief 11-06-2012 05:25 AM

No more painful than watching the Chiefs...

Crush 11-06-2012 05:27 AM

Only if Scott Pioli is your dentist.

htismaqe 11-06-2012 05:29 AM

First of all, a "cavity" requires a FILLING, not a root canal.

And second, dental technology has come a LONG way. I've had 2 root canals done in the last 3 years and they don't hurt at all.

BlackHelicopters 11-06-2012 07:01 AM

Dude, do you still have both testicles?

Hog's Gone Fishin 11-06-2012 07:05 AM

I just had one two weeks ago. My second. Tell the Dentist not to give you that shot for numbing the tooth ,it causes cancer.

And impotence.

blaise 11-06-2012 07:10 AM

The shots they give you are more unpleasant than the actual root canal.

Novacaine causes cancer?

farmerchief 11-06-2012 07:23 AM

YES! Still dealing with one that was "started" 30 days ago, could be the older dentist that should have retired years ago!

Yep. If you don't believe it ask anybody with cancer if they've ever had a shot of novocaine.

First off, we don't use Novocaine. Haven't used that since the early 1980's. We now use Articaine which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 times as potent as an anesthetic as Novocaine. I've probably performed over 2000 root canals in my 20 years of practice, and have had maybe 10 people that had trouble getting numb. Those people were all severely abscessed (swollen) when we did it as well. Root canals are easy as pie, just let the dentist know that you'd rather be number than not. You may be numb for 5 hours, but you wont feel shit.

I've had two, and this is pretty much my story. And, even though you won't feel shit for a few hours after you're done, follow the dentist's orders and go ahead and take some Advil before the numbness wears off.

Dave Lane 11-06-2012 09:32 AM

ROOT canals aren't that bad but only had one. And 3 cavities for that matter.

My last one I had to had a "tap" in my jawbone, below the tooth. But the procedure itself was simple and painless.

ROOT CANALS AINT SHIT

(Gum surgery, on the other hand...)

RunKC 11-06-2012 01:02 PM

Okay ha. How much does it cost to have this shit done?
Btw I might have 2 and I have insurance.

So like $120 per cavity?

Imon Yourside 11-06-2012 01:10 PM

It doesn't hurt nearly as bad as extraction, it's not a big deal really. Oh and $120 for a route canal? is this the neighbor with a pair of pliars?

Titty Meat 11-06-2012 01:15 PM

Not at all. I had a filling that hurt like shit because the numbing stuff didn't kick in and the dentist started drilling. That hurt.

Damn dentists have boat payments to make. Pay what they say.

Hog's Gone Fishin 11-07-2012 09:02 AM

Routt canal cost me around $900 and then another $900 for the crown.

That's about right. It's those 6 mil Routt canals that really gripe me.

BlackHelicopters 11-07-2012 09:47 AM

What most people don't know about dentists is that they never work on patients in school. The first live experience is when they open the doors of the practice. That's why I never go the Dentist.

That's not true. Our school of dentistry does perform work on actual patients and hospital employees at highly discounted rates.
