That should be interesting.

His sexual preference comes into play indirectly in the third book in a big way. Hopefully that's vague enough not to be spoilerish.

First Sunday without GoT.

I watched the pilot for "Falling Skies" from last Sunday. WHAT AN ABORTION! Admittedly I have DVRed this Sunday's episode just to give a show with Spielberg's name attached to it one more chance. I have a feeling that this episode is probably the last I'll watch though.

Rumors I have read have Eccleston as either Stannis or Balon Greyjoy and Curran being Edmure Tully.

Love it.

For some reason, I always pictured Stannis as a younger version of Christopher Lee playing Count Dooku. Just looked up Eccleston, and I think he could be a decent Stannis. He's got a pretty good 'stern' face.

I don't think Eccleston would work as Stannis. He fits Greyjoy much more in my mind.

Likewise.

He has that lean, hungry, 'Pyke' look to him. I see him as a great Greyjoy.

I always saw Kenneth Branagh w/ Edmure.

And as I have no creativity whatsoever, yes, Alan Rickman has been my Stannis. The Hans Gruber/Sheriff of Nottingham era Rickman. He just has that droll way about him that fits Stannis well in my eyes.

I don't know. This is almost exactly how I pictured Stannis as I read:

It's almost uncanny, actually.

Not even close to how I've envisioned him. Tall, broad-shouldered and lean, not scarecrowish like Eccleston. A thinner, dour version of Robert, basically. And bald, or balding.

Question:

While I was still getting used to all the names and accents, I missed the story of the Khalesi's protector. What's his story in a nutshell?

"Ser Jorah Mormont is an exiled knight who was once the head of House Mormont and lord of Bear Island. He fled Westeros to escape execution for trading in slaves, and entered the service of the last Targaryens."

Ned was going to execute him... it's his duty and all...

He's also the son of The Bear. Lord Mormont. Jon Snow's boss (THE Boss) at the wall.
