I Need a Lawn Mower < $300

Been shopping for a push lawn mower - the most important feature to me is cutting power

Here's what I've seen so far...

Sears - Craftsman w/ Honda motor
21" cut, torque 6.5, large rear wheels, deck rinse, self-propelled $299

Home Depot - Toro "High Wheel Recycler" Briggs & Stratton
22" cut, torque 7.25, large rear wheels, deck rinse, front drive $279

Lowes has new [but repaired] Husqvarna w/ Briggs & Stratton
22" cut , torque 7.75, slightly larger rear wheels, deck rinse, rear propelled Regular price >$329 discounted to $258

advice?

Had a Craftsman and it was junk. Have a Toro and it's been solid.

Craig's list. Or any Pawn Shop in your home town.

Find an old Toro GTS 2 cycle. Best mowers ever built. Mine goes back to 1989 still starts on the second pull & can cut tall wet grass with ease

I own that Toro model and paid roughly the same price. I haven't had it long, but it's started on the first pull every time and cuts my large yard great.

Buy the Craftsman but look at their returns first. I saved 30% after I bought the 3 year warranty

Craftsman...The honda is a great motor, craftsman still has good warranty (2 years factory AFAIK)

Plus all the craftsman mowers usuyally come with the mulching blade and plug so u can use as mulcher or not, which I love using it as a mulcher myself.

So yah

Craftsman my brudda

(the 6 hp is PLENTY, if you look 20 years ago everything was 3-4 HP and they worked fine...dont get fooled by higher label #'s)

I agree, of his three push mower choices I would buy the Craftsman.

But like George said, go to Craigslist. It is a buyers market, especially now.

I have purchased two of the old 2 cycle Lawn Boys in the last year on CL as they are very light and handy around the lake. They are getting harder to find. The newer Lawn Boys have 4 cycle Tecumseh motors, and they suck.
