what would be the point of a sequel to ID4? Will the aliens only attack on July 4th again?

STargate geriatric? can't wait.

Any Stargate sequel not including the casts of the various SG shows would be a huge mistake. Those shows ARE the sequel to the movie.

As far as ID4 sequels go, if the right script and direc tor come along, MAYBE it could work? And piss on Godzeeera.

They already made an ID4 sequel. They called it Battle Los Angeles.

I'm surprised they never thought of sending a search party to the planet the folks of Moon Base Alpha went to....

Id4 is one of those movie that as people became more familiar with computers, the major plot point is stupider and stupider.

If you're referring to the idea that a.) a Mac laptop could b.) write a virus that could c.) speak to an alien computer and d.) infect it and e.) that it would then miraculously trickle down from the mothership and f.) make the smaller ships drop their shields... what's wrong with that premise? It could happen! I'm sure any cable installer knows how to write that program in a night, like Goldblum did!

It was a cheesy movie in 1996...and 15 years havent helped it much.

If they were going to do a sequel, they should have done one 14 years ago....you know, when ID4 was still hot.

BillSelfsTrophycase 06-26-2011 03:36 PM

Of course it was cheesy, Summer blockbusters usually are

The President of the United States flying an F-18 against Aliens that wiped out the entire U.S. airforce earlier...C'mon Man

Still an awesome flick

Carter Blanchard to do Rewrite on ‘Independence Day 2′ Script

Carter Blanchard has been set to rewrite the script to 20th Century Fox’s “Independence Day 2.”

James Vanderbilt penned the first draft, and Roland Emmerich is on board to direct.

Emmerich will also produce along with Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser.

No plot details have been revealed other than that Will Smith will not be returning to reprise his role. After Smith passed on joining the sequel, Fox has tried to figure out how to tackle this new installment without him and hopes Blanchard can help with that.

Blanchard is currently working on the adaptation of Mark Millar’s “Kindergarten Heroes” for Fox and also penned the script to “Spyhunter” at Warner Bros.

MGM, Warner Bros. Launching 'Stargate' Trilogy With Roland Emmerich to Direct

MGM and Warner Bros. are launching a new feature film trilogy based on the 1994 film Stargate.

Roland Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the original film with Dean Devlin, will direct and Devlin will produce.

MGM will be running production on Stargate, with Jonathan Glickman, president of the motion picture group, overseeing the project on behalf of MGM and Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production, overseeing for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Worldwide distribution will be handled by Warner Bros. Pictures, with select international territories to be handled by MGM.

At the time of its release, the sci-fi film Stargate, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, set the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend in October and went on to gross nearly $200 million worldwide at the box office.

Emmerich is currently shooting gay rights drama Stonewall, which is set amid the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York. He is also in pre-production on ID Forever Part I and Part II, back-to-back sequels to his film, Independence Day. He's repped by CAA.

Devlin is currently in pre-production on Warner Bros.' Geostorm, his feature directorial debut, which he co-wrote with Paul Guyot.

Interestingly enough there was a cut scene in the movie that at least offered a half assed explanation about why the virus thing worked.

The movie still sucked and the explanation was bullshit.. but at least it was something.

It really hasn't aged well at all. Although I do still like the cool model/practical special effects. movie was made right before the big digital effects explosion.

The story, writing and acting is very, very hokey though.
