Redneckraider, I lived in Alaska for 4 years
and I went to Anchorage many times. The city sits on the coast, surrounded by water and huge mountains that are right in your face. Absolutely beautiful setting. The city is not like the rest of the state. They have malls, movie theaters, wal-marts, chain restaurants like The Outback for instance. I would have killed for one of those in Fairbanks. The stripers go full neud if that intrests you. I recommend the Bush Company. Alaska is expensive, so I hope your job pays you well. They have the economy adjusted so its seems expensive compared to regular states but it evens out. McDonald's can pay 15 per hour but Frootloops cost 7 dolla's box. See what I mean? If you becone a resident and if you move there you should so you can get the dividen they give out every year. After living there for a year as a resident you qualify. It can be a nice chunk of change every October. Family of three, all residents, would get about 5-10 thousand depending on how much it was that year.
The draw back to Alaska is where it's located. Flying is the only way to go. Driving out takes a long time and really can only be done safely in the summer.
Alaska is a big move but Anchrage is a good city. Football is on at 0900, Monday night is on at five p.m. I like that alot.
