Cant wait to go back. Been three times. Next time we will go for a full month. Australia and New Zealand in 2015. Just a trip to British Columbia and a short jaunt to New Mexico this year. Plus 2 weeks on Hilton Head in March.

Got a kid going to college, I'll be lucky to leave the zip code for anything but work!

This thread might be dead, I don't know, but had to pimp my new camera of about a year now. The Sony NEX-C3. I believe there are new versions of this now, but pretty much the same thing.

Best of both worlds between a high-powered DSLR and the compactness and ease-of-use of a Point and Shoot. Comes with a low powered zoom, but has the ability to expand to high powered zooms, or other creative lenses, ability to replace packaged flash with higher powered flashes... ability to pick up a dedicated microphone accessory to replace the on-board general mic. Has lots of creative options that are easy to use and takes phenomenal pictures.

Also takes great video (although I think new version has HD video).

Easily my favorite camera that I've ever had including my old beloved Minolta DSLR.

I may have just made my choice. I found some gently used f/2.8L 24-70mm. And by gently used, they say "90-96% of original condition. Exceptionally nice. May have slight wear on finish but visible only under close inspection. Glass very clean."

That is my favorite Canon lens and it isn't even close. Helped me become a photographer.

Are these Delkin Device Camera Protectors worth a crap? I'm beating the hell out of a camera I'd like to be able to trade in a year or so, but I need to be able to operate the controls.

I've never used one, but the one time I held a camera from a friend who had bought one, I wasn't overly impressed. I'd say they serve their purpose, but I've had a few cameras in my time, and those that I've broken I'm pretty sure would have broken with, or without, a condom.

But I'm old and grumpy, so I'm no fan of using rubbers...

So after one gymnastics season, I'm looking to move up from my 20D. I'm zeroing in on either the 50D or the 7D. I found a 50D in "very good" condition for under $400 and the cheapest I can find a 7D for is around $850...BIG price difference, but it seems like it might be worth it. Dual DIGIC 4 as opposed to one and 8 fps continuous shooting compared to 6.3. I'm afraid I might be talking myself into something that I don't really fully need in the 7D though.

Does anyone have experience with these two models and want to give some input?

Two different platforms really, close enough to say a huge cost difference matters. For what you're doing I'd go with the 50D and put the $450 into glass or something. Both are great, but unless you can justify the 7D's added cost, pocket the difference and enjoy a great camera. But those 19 focal points are sweet! I'd still go 50D...

Yeah, I suppose you're right. The 7D is tempting though.

I just scored a 50D for $300 :thumb:

I should be able to start playing with it next week.

I fully agree. But last summer in Italy at 100 degrees it was awesome to have my nikon point and shoot while some dickweed like Dave Lane had a 20 pound camera pack and was broke ass enough to take pictures of people having a wine or beer in the afternoon rather than having one cause he dropped a couple grand on cameras before he left home.

And…the camera in a iPhone takes some amazing stuff. Not sure how. But yes it does.

Look its an idiot giving out camera advice to two people that are more or less professionals. Thats just so like HCF, never afraid to take on a subject he has no idea about. Its why we all love you, sometimes ignorance and stupidity can be really a cute combo to add to the rest of humanity's mirth.

Great deal. If you really start to like and want to move up to a full frame camera go 6D, its a monster value.
