How long will Jamaal stay in KC?

With all the Hooplah surrounding Jamaal today, I thought about how long Jamaal would stay here. I would LOVE for him to stay a Chief forever, but it doesn't always end up that way.

Can someone give me the details on his contract right now; I'll keep looking myself.

Jamal's locked up through the 2015 season.

penbrook 12-15-2013 11:40 PM

2014: 2.25 mil
2015: 4.75 mil
2016: free agent

Who knows what kind of contract he will demand.

Eleazar 12-15-2013 11:41 PM

I don't like his username. Can some mod abuse him?

Bl00dyBizkitz 12-15-2013 11:47 PM

Hopefully the dude is reasonable, he doesn't seem like the guy who only wants money, but wants what he thinks he's worth.

/burnthread

penbrook 12-15-2013 11:48 PM

5/60 be worth it for Jamaal

Demonpenz 12-15-2013 11:49 PM

Look good in pinstripes /Hudler

eDave 12-15-2013 11:50 PM

He'll be here as long as it is in the Chiefs best interest. He ain't George Brett.

ChiefsCountry 12-15-2013 11:58 PM

He will be 30 when he is eligible for free agency. For running backs that is a kiss of death. We better just enjoy him the next two seasons.

Direckshun 12-15-2013 11:59 PM

I want you to die and I think you should die.

penbrook 12-16-2013 12:00 AM

Charles has a good five years left in him

He will be 28.

Hammock Parties 12-16-2013 12:01 AM

As long as it takes for Alex to waste the rest of his career.

Chiefs=Champions 12-16-2013 12:08 AM

I don't like you.

cosmo20002 12-16-2013 12:08 AM

He'll be 27 in a couple weeks.

A the start of the 2016 season he'll be a few months from 30.

He could still be great, but chances are he won't be the same as he is now.
At age 30, even the great ones seem to go downhill fast. There are a few who have run for 1000 yards at age 30, but not many.

And what if Knile Davis looks like a star? No one knows what the situation will be in a couple years.

penbrook 12-16-2013 12:10 AM

Charles is 26 turns 27 in two weeks. He will be 29 when he is eligible for free agency. I doubt he ever goes to free agency. He will probably sign a extension in 2015.

He turns 27 at the end of this month. He will turn 30 in 2016 season. Pretty risky move for running backs in their 30s.

I was wondering about the Knile situation too. Dude looks promising, but I didn't want to piss off everyone with the idea of "replacing" Charles with Davis. I feel like this thread has already pissed off enough people with me just asking.

What? Now? **** no. I'd have Charles on every ****ing snap if he didn't need a break every now and then. I'm talking a few years down the line. But no one can predict what will happen then.

I hope Charles has 5 1000+ yard seasons left, but history shows it just doesn't happen very often. These RBs lose a 1/2 step and it's over.

We're all high on Charles today, but in two years if he starts averaging 3 yards a carry, people will be screaming for Davis. Just the way it is...

I'd resign him to a good contract but with tons of conditions to make sure he don't hurt the cap.

Michael Irvin just said Jamaal Charles will run past you like you're Ray Charles.

1. Never demanded you to search anything. I can find shit on my own.

2. Is there a "you must have 10,000 posts and all of the rep to make a thread" rule that I missed somewhere? Because if not, I'm doing the same thing everyone else does when they make new threads. If you don't like the topic, wonderful, go somewhere else.

3. All Patriots fans just moan and bitch when their own team isn't playing perfect. They're entitled assholes, so **** that.

If we get 2 more seasons like this from him, we're fortunate. He'll be 29 by then.

I can only think of a couple of RB's that looked good after they hit 30.....Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen. I am sure there are more but those 2 come to mind immediately.

But your point is correct....after 30 most of the backs have taken such a pounding that they either slow down or are more injury prone.

chiefzilla1501 12-16-2013 07:36 AM

Jamaal signed a really conservative contract even after having a borderline MVP year. I don't see him as a guy who is going to be unreasonable about money.

Tiki Barber rushed for 1800 yards at the age of 30, 1600 at 31 and retired.

whoman69 12-16-2013 08:23 AM

Charles hasn't taken a load of damage. He hasn't had a season where we road him 'til he dies.

Probably three more seasons playing for the Chiefs. I could see him going the John Elway route into the car business and open up a Cadillac dealership specializing in SUVs.

UK_Chief 12-16-2013 08:46 AM

If Knile Davis starts looking like a stud in a couple years, could we move JC to WR? More longevity and we already know he can do it as he's currently our best receiver...

Didn't McCluster start as a RB?

trndobrd 12-16-2013 10:00 AM

If JC continues to only get tackled on 2/3 of his touches he might make it another 4-5 years.

It would be a smart move for the Chiefs and likely for Jamaal.

Going into FA at 29, if the Chiefs sign him to a deal that would realistically be 3 seasons long (regardless of its terms), they may only get a good season or two out of it.

Right now, however, with the leverage of having him under contract for his age 27 and 28 seasons, they could probably tack on another 3 years to the current deal, up the value a bit for the 27/28 seasons and carry him through the remainder of his useful NFL years.

I think it would be smart to approach Charles about an extension in the offseason. It would need to be a reasonable one, but we have quite a bit of contract leverage with those 2 years under team control. Give him a little more financial stability by upping the value of those 2 years and you can buy yourself another 2-3 years on the back end of that deal at reasonable terms. The timing works better for the Chiefs and the immediate financial incentive works better for Jamaal.

It makes a lot of sense, IMO.

Pablo 12-16-2013 11:09 AM
