Django Unchained
Saw this last night. LOVED IT.
Kinda long (its almost 3 hours long) but it is really entertaining and really funny. Has anyone else seen this yet? |
I was thinking of checking this movie out...looks pretty solid, but was wanting to get some thoughts from other Tarantino fans first.
|
Going to see it this weekend.
|
I can't believe there's not a 2-page thread already on Django Unchained.....

I went to see it last night. The sound would cut out every once in awhile, but you kind of got used to it. They paused it at one point and came in to tell us that they were going to reboot the sound to see if it helped. It didn't. They came in and offered for us to go over to the theater where it was just starting and to give us free passes. We were about 45 minutes into it at this point, and the show just starting would have gotten out later than I would have liked, so we just got our free passes and left. I like what I've seen of it so far. :)

If you like Tarantino movies, you'll love it. It is what it claims to be, 3 hours of Jamie Foxx shooting slave masters in the face. If you go in expecting a period piece discussing the complex relationship of slavery in antebellum southern states, you'll be disappointed. If you go in expecting Inglorious Basterds, you won't be disappointed.
And aside from some of DiCaprio's trademark ACTING, every performance is great. I'm a big Christopher Waltz fan now. |

I liked it, but there were a couple of very uncomfortable scenes. Some solid humor, good acting, and overall entertaining.
|
Ehh I have no desire to see it do to the language. I'm all for traditional cussing, but it's going to be an uncomfortable movie due to the use of the N word.

A friend I went with said, "Tarantino gets a little more over the top the older...err...fatter he gets." There was some over the top killing, but it was really good. |

I almost feel like its a given now with QT movies, but the soundtrack was really good and well utilized. Everything from Jim Croce to hardcore rap.
|
Freaking awesome!!! I hate to admit it but I've seen it three times...of course my cousin manages a movie theater so I didn't have to pay for it. Yes, the "bag" posse was some of the funniest stuff ever! My wife and I just cry everytime we watch it!

I loved it. I love QT films. Hilarious to hear SL Jackson's character using the same phraseology (in the 1850s) that his Pulp Fiction character used.

Django action figures anyone? Would you buy or are they offensive?
http://www.thewrap.com/movies/articl...-outrage-71951 Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" has already been the subject of criticism for its bloody violence and frequent use of the N-word, but now action figures from the film are causing the next wave of outrage. he National Entertainment Collectibles Association, Inc. (NECA) -- a company that has produced toys for movies including "Hunger Games," "Predators" and "Rocky" -- partnered with the Weinstein Company to release eight-inch tall figurines for sale on Amazon and people aren't happy about it. Also read: 'Django Unchained' Debate Rages Among African-Americans: Is It Entertainment or Abomination? Najee Ali, director of the advocacy group Project Islamic Hope, told AP that the collectible line of movie merchandise is "a slap in the face of our ancestors" and is hoping for their removal from the market. And unlike Spike Lee, who refuses to watch Tarantino's latest out of respect for his ancestors, Ali wasn't opposed to Tarantino's depiction of slavery or use of racial slurs in the revenge tale. He admits to seeing it twice, but feels the plastic personifications of the characters in the film "trivializes the horrors of slavery and what African Americans experienced." So far, customer reviews on Amazon agree. "Slavery is not something to play with," one of many comments in the same vein read. "These toys will fall in the hands of people who may think it is ok to mimic how slaves were treated. Please take these dolls off the market." Others, however, don't have any issue with the figurines portraying Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and others who starred in the movie. "If fans of this film want to collect memorabilia and action figures based off of a movie they enjoyed, it is a far stretch to say that the makers of this movie are attempting to make money off of slavery," one supportive collector wrote. "There is nothing racist about making a toy based off of a character from a movie." Also read: 'Django Unchained' on Pace to Be Tarantino's Biggest Box Office Film Ever As the racial debate over "Django Unchained" continues, the movie is raking in big bucks at the box office. With over $108 million accumulated domestically, Tarantino's latest is on pace to become his biggest success yet at the box office. Due to the sensitive subject matter, it is on track to becoming Tarantino's most controversial, too. The Weinstein Company did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment on the action figures, while NECA responded with no comment "at the moment." |
It irritates me that people find the language offensive. It's a movie set in slavery times for ****s sake. Great movie. And while I LOVE Tarantino's choice of music in damn near every movie he's made, and love the music in this, there was admittedly a bit too many scenes with music in this.
Samuel L was ****ing awesome in this too. |

Watched this movie last night. Loved it. It was a great movie, better than i thought it would be, TBH. I went in expecting blood and guts, instead i got a great, all around movie. I woke up thinking about the movie....that's when you know it was a good film.
"I got two guns, ****a" |
The movie was pretty good. I reeeallly liked Dr. Shultz character. Leo was amazing, as usual, and Samuel L. was great too, although his character really pissed me off...

Christoph Waltz wins the golden globe for best supporting actor for Django.
|
And QT wins the golden globe for best screenplay!
|
Great movie.

He said: It's just a ****ing word. It really shouldn't hold the kind of power that we give it by gasping at the thought of uttering it. Edit: at the thought of White people uttering it, I think he meant. |
Just finished it.
LOVED IT! 2nd favorite QT film. |
Watched it last night, it was awesome. In 2 hours and 45 minuets there's not one single dry spot. Entertained throughout the whole movie. The mask scene with Jonah Hill was ****ing hilarious.
|
Very entertaining film. Waltz killed it. Jamie Foxx was great. Enough violence to satisfy anyone's desires. Some scenes were a little difficult to watch; but still great all around.
Music selection throughout was top notch. |
Great movie
Could have done without the upside down ball shot |

Interviewer sucks. You do whatever the hell Samuel Jackson tells you to do. |
I liked it. lots of flying meat :D was surprised how late it was when I got home, I don't usually sit through long films very well, but hey, it's tarantino. his lengthy films are worth the sit. of course, I'm a huge spaghetti western fan and this film doesn't overplay that style, just a few necessary edits gave the film some flavor from the sixties leone style cinematography.
|
Man, I usually don't care much for Tarantino movies but this one was great.
|
I watched this last night.
I liked the movie, but I was sorta upset when it went full Tarantino in the last 40 minutes. The movie felt like a change of pace for a while, but it was the same ole formulaic movie by the end. |
Waltz was amazing in this. The whole movie was fantastic! Another great one from QT. Sam Jackson killed it too, I loved his role.
|
I loved it. I'm not sure I dislike any of QT's films, though (excepting some of the campy bullshit like Death Proof/Grindhouse). Actually, I'm not crazy about Jackie Brown either, and Kill Bill was up and down.
Inglorious Bastards is ****ing brilliant, though, as are PF and RD. |

Re: DiCaprio - I don't dislike the guy, but I just can't see him as the 'swoooon' that others seem to. He's no Clooney or Pitt. Really like him in The Departed. But the rest of his roles, I get that apocryphal 'Hey's that's DiCaprio playing a part' patina on his performances. Moreso than even Cruise, who occasionally, rarely but occasionally, disappears into a role.
|
I used to hate DiCaprio but he's grown on me over the years. Gangs of New York started it....

Last of the Mohicans In the Name of the Father STAT!! [just listing movies before GoNY] MLF is his best performance LotM is his best movie, Michael Mann and James Fenimore Cooper saw to that. LotM is one of those movies I can not only watch every time it comes on, I can completely immerse myself in every time it comes on. It's just so beautiful and tragic and emotional. Such a great movie. |

I enjoyed this, not as much as some of the others, but with alot of Tarrantino movies, the more you watch them the more they grow on you. Pulp Fiction and Resevour Dogs will probably always be my favorites.
