best way to show AVI on DVD player

i've got a AVI file that i want to burn to a DVD so i can play it on a regular tv DVD player.

what format does it need to be in?

does it need to be an image file or can it just stay normal?

has to be a bootable file?

I have been wondering the same thing. My DVD player doesnt play AVI's so im thinking id have to convert them to MPEG then to VOB files.

I have found these but havent tried it yet.

Bank DVDs are not much more than CD's. Cheap ass ones are about .20 and name brand $.50.

Playing AVI's would be a hell of a nice feature but not worth buying another player.
