Welbourn on IR

Carl saves us maybe a high 3rd Round choice

HolmeZz 11-25-2004 03:56 PM

Beautiful. I'm assuming there's absolutely no way he ends up playing half our offensive snaps, right?

nascher 11-25-2004 04:46 PM

I Hope so !

The Bad Guy 11-25-2004 04:58 PM

No, I doubt he'll come close to half the snaps.

He was only playing half the snaps the last few games and if he is missing 6 games because of injury there is no chance.

Good move because he has sucked balls.

tk13 11-25-2004 05:54 PM

Good move I'd say. I'm not sure how much I like moving up but I'm afraid that by the time April rolls around I'm going to be pushing for Carl to trade up to get D. Johnson or Rolle, if we want to have a chance of doing that it'd be nice to have as many picks as possible....

That's fantastic news. Carl is now following my blueprint to success.

Next move: cut an aging veteran this season so we can absorb some of his accelerated bonus under 2004's cap.

Unfortunately, all the good candidates for that idea got shiny new contracts just last year.

So. None of them got unmanageable bonuses. We could cut Hicks, Holliday, and Woods tomorrow without busting the cap.

I'd cut all three of them in that case.

Woods got a 5 million dollar bonus.... that'd be a large chunk of it right there if we do have 6 million in cap room. Actually I'd guess we have less than that after adding guys like Horn and Scanlon to the roster....

Phobia 11-25-2004 06:38 PM

Scanlon counts roughly $100k to this season's cap. Horn maybe $300k. That's nothing.

But, we have to cut somebody soon, if we're going to. I think the deadline to apply bonuses to the current year's cap is sometime before week 14.

They can't just do it before June 1st? I don't really follow up on how the cap works.

If they cut these players before June 1st, their remaining bonus accelerates and hits entirely in 2005. If they wait until after June 1st, they can delay a portion of the bonus acceleration until 2006.

However, if they cut somebody NOW, which is after June 1st, 2004 (obviously) a portion of the accelerated bonus would count against THIS year's cap and a portion would count against the 2005 cap.

The Bad Guy 11-25-2004 07:16 PM

The deadline to have stuff count for the 2004 cap happened already.

No shit? I thought it was with 4 weeks left in the season.

Well, I guess I'll stop talking about that dumb idea, then. It was never really my idea, anyway. I think that idiot, Skip Towne came up with it.
