If you mean SF kick returner fumbling 2x in the NFCCG then yea you are correct that's hard to sustain.

WTF were people watching in the playoffs last year?

They didn't go to the Super Bowl though because of Smith. He played like the game manager he is against the Giants. He's not elite. From now until we are dead only franchise QBs will be in the Super Bowl. It'll be the same this year, and next year and next year, and so on. Kap isn't elite yet, but he has big upside. They aren't going to the Super Bowl no matter how good their D is.

Alex Smith didn't make the plays that elite QBs make during that game to win it though. Game managers can't overcome mistakes like that, elite QBs can. He stuntin' like his daddy (Cassel) shitting his pants, locking onto one WR that whole game. No franchise QB, no go. Evidence=they didn't win.

He is good enough to take them to OT in the NFCCG last year but no chance to go to a SB this year when he was playing even better than last year?

I watched the game man. His play wasn't good enough. They were not going to win that game. Eli or Smith? Who you got? People will point to those two turnovers but Smith didn't play good enough. Their defense kept them in the game but Smith was not playing well and he was not going to outplay an elite QB. They aren't winning a Super Bowl with Alex Smith. Harbaugh had to stroke his crap of an ego to even play to a game manager level. Kap has more upside and will likely develop nicely, hopefully for them.

How many points did the Giants score off Kyle Williams fumbles? 14.

The game was decided by 3 points. I am not a rocket scientist but I can tell you Smith didn't lose that game. He had 2 TD's and no turnovers and you have no idea what he may have done had Williams not gifted the ball back to the Giants 2x deep in their own end of the field.

If you cant get that its not my fault.

No WE don't know this.

What we do know is SF lost because of Williams fumbles, end of story, without that they win the game 95% of the time and are in the SB. History proves that out.

Game managers don't win Super Bowls. Smith wasn't going to make the plays, and didn't make the plays necessary to win that game. He would've been good back in the early to mid-90s though lol. He's shit.

I guess maybe the point I was making is getting lost.

Not trying to say Smith is elite.

I am arguing the statement that Alex Smith could never lead a team to a SB when aside from 2 ST fumbles in an OT game in the NFCCG he would have done just that last year and was playing even better this year.

If you say he didn't lose that game then you say someone else did and therefore had that person (Williams) not ****ed up they are in the SB.

both San Fran and NYG had chances to win the game on offense...and neither QB made a play. Not once. For several series.

The game was won when Kyle Williams fumbled, yet another, punt.

Playing better this year? He was playing so good his coach decided to bench him. Harbaugh knew what he had in Smith that's why he benched him. He had played as good as he was gonna play and that wouldn't have been good enough to take them to the Super Bowl. Kap's ceiling is much higher. That's why he made the move.

Disagree with a lot of this.

Smith is a capable NFL QB. And you're right, he's the definition of a game manager who isn't going to go out there and win many games...his performance against New Orleans in the playoffs last year was admirable and I'm sure he'll find another team who will give him one more chance to be a starter.

but the reason for his benching had nothing to do with his play...Alex Smith was playing reasonably well this year...

the reason for his benching was because Kaepernick can be an elite, franchise QB. Plain and simple. Smith cannot.

Which disproves the statement a Smith led team could never go to the SB.

Its this simple.

If you ask yourself honestly, had Williams not had the second fumble, not even considering the first one, do you think SF wins that game?

The simple answer is yes.
