Former NL Ump Eric Gregg died tonight
He suffered a massive stroke yesterday. He was 55.

I'll never forget that 97 NLCS Game where he had a strike zone the size of a Buick, Livan Hernandez dominated that day.

RIP.
Wasn't he the ump that weighed like 500lbs and was trying to lose weight? |

Gregg was a funny guy, too. He did several commercials and made appearances in the Philly area. I think he ended up working as a bartender/court jester in a joint there. RIP. |
97 series where fred mcgriff struck out on an ephas pitch?
|
Safe at home.
|
Sorry he died.
How can an umpire be so out of shape? This is like cops with donut jokes. He was a Fat jackA$$ ump. |

Sorry to hear about anyone passing at such a young age. People passing away in their 50's makes me nervous.... |

http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseb...Gregg_Eric.stm he roly-poly Gregg gained off-season recognition with a TV sports show on "Evening Magazine." He was perhaps the only ump ever to call interference on himself. In 1978 he bumped Cardinal catcher Ted Simmons in the act of throwing and subsequently nullified a Dodgers double steal. (RTM) |
