RUMOR: BETHESDA TEASES NEXT FALLOUT WITH NEW WEBSITE - UPDATED
Andy Chalk | 14 November 2013 3:53 pm 29 Fallout 3 Please Stand By A debate is raging over whether a newly-registered domain is a tease for the next Fallout game. Head over to thesurvivor2299.com and you'll be greeted by a blank, black screen and an odd, grating beeping. "What could it be?" you ask yourself. The sharp minds at Reddit - some of them, anyway - think they have an answer. The whois result for thesurvivor2299.com states that the registrant is none other than ZeniMax Media Inc. of Rockville, MD, parent company of Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks. And the beeping, the Redditors say, is actually morse code for "11.12.13," which would seem to correspond to a date. "Aha!" I hear you cry. "November 12 was two days ago!" True enough, yes, unless you happen to live in Europe, in which case it's actually referring to 11 December 2013. Could it be a hint that the next Fallout will take place overseas? Obsidian's J.E. Sawyer, the lead designer and project coordinator on Fallout: New Vegas, has said in the past that he'd like to make a Fallout spin-off based on the European/Middle Eastern conflicts during the Resource Wars. On the other hand, the domain name is registered with GoDaddy, while all other Bethesda domains are registered through Corporate Domains. That could very well indicate that the whole thing is a prank - but it might not, too. The site source code offers no hints one way or another, although the morse code sound file is named "bridgeport," which may carry some significance. The bottom line is this: It might be real, it might not - but until we know for sure, we've got something to look forward to in December. Speculation is fun! UPDATE: Countdown timer! Countdown timer! Thank you based Bethesda.
Maybe now I'll buy a PS4. |
Um, so they would spring this on us without any kind of previews at all?
I mean, cool and all, but hype is awesome. |
The countdown is to the announcement, not the game.
|
This is like those annoying 10-second trailers advertising a full trailer coming the next day. Except it's for something a month off.

I still play Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. Great, great games, and the wide variety of mods keep them fresh.
Hope we don't have to wait too long for 4. |

The game will 99% take place on MIT and in Boston.
Bethseda employees have been seen around Boston taking photographs and mapping areas and shit like a year ago. |
I'm expecting lots of feral ghouls in the big dig tunnels, which should mean lots of dark ass exploration.

Leaked Documents Reveal That Fallout 4 Is Real, Set In Boston |
Fallout 4 casting call documents confirm Boston setting – rumour
Fallout 4′s setting, plot and general existence have been harvested from a set of allegedly leaked documents. Kotaku got hold of a set of documents including scripts and character descriptions, which it claims related to a casting call for a project codenamed Institute. Although the word Fallout is not used in the documents, the casting director is the same as worked on Dishonored and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; the script references locations which appeared in past Fallout games; and the famous line “war never changes” is included – although the player character narrates this opener this time around, having awoken from a cryogenic sleep chamber. The script describes a character called Preston Garvey, who sends the player to salvage a fusion core from a museum in the Commonwealth, a location reference din other Fallout media. Other characters include a radio DJ called Travis Miles and an engineer called Sturges. Particularly interesting is the script’s setting in and around Boston, Massachusetts, as it lines up with 2012 rumours that Bethesda was spotted scouting at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bethesda quite naturally had no comment on the leak. Even should the documents be genuine, there’s no guarantee the details contained therein will make their way to the final game. Bethesda wrapped development of Skyrim in April this year. Since then, it has been quiet on what it’s working on next, but fans naturally expect and hope for a new Fallout sequel, which is why everyone got so excited about that fake teaser site. Whatever it is, Bethesda thinks it’s awesome and has no timeframe for reveal. Thanks, IGN. |
Looks like it's for real this time.

Release date is Dec. 31, 2015.
And you can already pre-order it: http://www.amazon.com/Fallout-4-Xbox...ywords=fallout |
That isn't an official date, just a place holder. Could come sooner. Many people predicting October based on past Fallout releases

I never really got into this series. I gave it a shot with Fallout 2. Just couldn't get into it.
Of course my taste has changed a lot. I might give it a shot. |

I don't think Bethesda took over till Fallout 3. Definitely worth a shot. |
That trailer looks good. I've always enjoyed the series and will most likely get the new one.

My son got 3GOTY last night. Doesn't work on 8.1. Tried all the steps I could find on the Steam discussion page.
Anyone conquered this? |
i'm in. Fallout 3 is one of my all-time faves.
Kinda got bogged down in new vegas for some reason.....guess I better get back to work on that....maybe a fresh restart is in store! |

I started playing New Vegas this past weekend after having bought the game a year or two ago during a Steam sale. This thread got me to load it up. I played Fallout 3 years ago. I still get a little annoyed by the PiP Boy being a crappy menu system, (I mean, why can't I just hit M for map) but the game is a lot of fun.

Time to make a choice on XB1 or PS4 it looks like.
Fallout is definitely a game I would purchase a console for. I must have logged multiple hundreds of hours on Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas. This footage looks amazing. Riding in dropships as a gunner, jump packs on the power armor, etc.. Cant wait to have this game. Week's vacation from work and locking myself up in the man cave for the duration. Wife and kids should still be there when I emerge, and if not, ill just create a new character. |
Yup, this will be my first game when I buy a PS4...
|
This will be what makes me buy a Xbox One.
|
Hopefully this game will feature an open ended story, and not just end once the final main mission is completed. Ive always hated that. The Elder Scrolls games always continued after the main quest was over, I don't understand how they cant get it right for Fallout.
They ran into the big issue in Fallout 3 (which SERIOUSLY pissed me off the first time I had played) with the game ending abruptly out of nowhere. I was about 55 hours in, decided to play another piece of the main story and during my frequent saving, I staggered all 3 of my saves over all of my previous ones outside of that mission. Imagine my fury when I realize I just flushed my entire 55 hours down the toilet by entering that quest. Even dumber was the fact that there was no way around someone dying there. You've got two followers immune to radiation ffs, but I cant let them activate the device? They fixed it with the Broken Steel dlc that allowed the story to continue past that point, but it was a damn long time coming. In New Vegas, they made the exact same style of story. Once you play the final battle, the game ends no matter which of the outcomes you choose. Its super annoying to me as a completist to just constantly have that one mission left undone, because it will end that character and if you want to use that character in the inevitable wave of DLC that is certainly going to be released, you cant have everything done. |

I've JIMP about 30 times today over this.

I actually prefer to play on a console. |
Quote:
In its original release, Fallout 3 ended after activating the water purifier, and you had to either load a previous save, or start again. It was not until the release of the "Broken Steel" DLC that altered the ending, that you could continue after the main story. Fallout New Vegas remains the same. If you begin the battle for Hoover Dam, that character ends at the end of that quest, no matter how many of the DLC you have installed. |
Quote:
With New Vegas, though, I could have swore I beat the final mission before playing any DLC's and didn't have to go back to a previous save. My menory might be failing me, though. |
