I think bad writing and political gatekeeping is rampant in comics, and it's affecting the product enormously. I think the Clairmont era of X-men can show anyone diversity done right compared to modern day tokenism that hack writers are passing off as diversity. Nowadays american comics take a back seat to japanese manga in terms of sales, and that's because the product is not good. Too much lecturing. Too much self projection from writers. Too much trolling the fanbase. I mean turning captain america into a nazi is pure trolling. I don't even like captain america, and that's exactly what I would do if I wanted to piss off all of his fans.

I watched one video of Diversity in comics (Meyer's youtube channel) because of it's clickbait title and it was boring as shit. Just some guy with awful audio bitching about how shitty comic books are with a weird obsession with insulting women in particular. I get the feeling he's had some bitter divorces.

In the case of that video, both things are true. Toxic activists are ruining a product to the point it's now 2nd to Japanese manga, and Meyer is a very sketchy dude.

I used to watch Maeyers videos; they were good when he focused on criticizing the comics. He got sucked up into the drama and started roasting roasties that work for Marvel. he comes off as a sexist and a gay basher. I have a modicum of respect for Meyer still because he started his own comic and sold $300K worth of graphic novels. its even more impressive since he has been blacklisted by diamond distribution and his publisher.

Purchased my first comic book in 30 some years. Getting in on the Savage Avengers series. Seems like it's going to be a good mix of characters I liked as a kid.
