This has driven me crazy since childhood.

The Western channel is running a Gunsmoke marathon this weekend. In the duel they show at the very beginning, Marshal Dillon gets outdrawn EVERYTIME. He's just lucky the other fellow's aim is not great. This bothered me when I watched Gunsmoke as a little kid, and it still bothers me. I'm marked for life. :deevee:

With the exception of Hill Street Blues, I can't think of a single TV drama aired before, say, the time of LA Law that I have any interest in. Sorry.

The duel isn't always the same? I never paid much attention to the opening duel, and I thought it didn't change from one episode to the next.

I like Gunsmoke, especially now that I'm older and understand more of what's going on. Even as a kid, though, it was fun to watch with the rest of the family.

I haven't seen an episode in years, but it's one of the absolute first shows I can remember watching as a child (the other being Captain Kangaroo).

However, it sounds like what you really need to watch is the scene from Unforgiven where Gene Hackman talks about the pros and cons of accuracy versus speed. :D

I was never a fan of Gunsmoke.
Bonanza was better.

Yeah, it's the same gunfight over and over. I keep waiting for Matt to lose but he never does. He can also whip anybody.

If they ever do change the gunfight, they ought to have Henrietta Hippo from The New Zoo Revue be the bad guy. I bet she wouldn't even get to draw before Marshall Dillon emptied his revolver. I'd like to see her dance, then.

Matt Dillon's wearing Kevlar.

I agree, but it still bothers me to hear the other guy's gun go off before Dillon's. Makes me think he only got lucky.
:(
