Chad Pennington Highlights

If you missd the game, short video highlights here. Chad looked pretty good for a guy most Chiefs fans did not want.

Go Chiefs!

Why, in your expert opinion, did the Chiefs or their fans NOT want Chad Pennington?

KCJohnny 08-24-2008 02:17 AM

I don't have any expert opinions Mr. McCloud. I'm as dysfunctional as every other life long Chiefs fan. As soon as we bring in a kid to develop at QB, I start Jonesin' for a vet. Pennington looked very impressive under pressure with a pretty bad Miami squad. I know it was against our vanilla look, but they smothered our guys when we had the ball.

meh

Deberg_1990 08-24-2008 02:21 AM

Sorry. If Pennington was still at the top of his game, he would still be a Jet. Hes nothing more than a servicable backup now.

Huard = Pennington

I understand and somewhat agree.

It's extremely tough to watch this team struggle, especially when quick fixes like Pennington come cheap. But I think we're going to have to watch this team struggle and hopefully, improve.

In the 70's and 80's, they were bad. REALLY bad. But they had no plan, no strategy, no coach that was willing to fight through the lean years. And while I'm not saying that Herm will "live" to see the other side, he's started something. Whether he finishes or not is up to Clark.

But the fact remains that the Chiefs for a better part of two decades, chose at the bottom of every round without much luck. Picking at the top should make for immediate improvements.

Somewhere down the line...

I agree Dane, and I think this year's draft showed some promise, if not for anything else that Clark Hunt wants to build an enduring playoff caliber team. The Chiefs have done it thru FA, now they are trying it through the draft. Like most other Chiefs fans, I am itchy for some FAs - its in our fan DNA. Waiting it out through the lean years causes us to recall those dark ages you referred to - not a happy memory in Chiefs Nation.

Well, for me they were. And not because the team won or lost.

I went out with my Dad, with friends and friend's families. We usually had to drive through snow and ice and most certainly wore snow boots and parkas. It was fun just to see the guys run around in the snow.

I think that the older we've become, there's been too much emphasis placed on "winning". Sure, it's a blast when our teams win but at the end of they day, we have children to take care of, bills to pay and people to love.

For me, the best part is sharing the win or loss with my family. Not brooding over a loss or drinking myself silly because they win.

For me (much like this forum), it's a shared experience. And while I hope the Chiefs win, their losses or victories shouldn't affect my life or my family's.

And Miami's done it with their first teams to Jacksonville and Tampa this preseason to (Tampa didn't score till backups were in and Jacksonville didn't score until the 4th when it was all the scrubs in). To the point that Jack Del Rio called his teams effort "garbage" at half time. Miami was horribly bad last season, but don't assume they are that same team. Miami rebuilt the lines and look much much tougher to the point where I'd say they are a possible 6-10/7-9 team depending on injuries and the rookies growth (and 3 of those rookies are starting at LT/RG and LE with Merling splitting time with Vonnie at RE). I do have to say Pennington has been a surprising pickup. The offense started looking crisper the moment he took his first huddle and will definitely give this team time to see if Henne has it, cause Beck surely doesn't.

Very mature perspective. Rep.

Penny looked OK .. We also didn't start two LBers .. A ST bumble .. A QB fumble .. And a RB stumble ... That was our game last nite ....

I did not know that, thanks for explaining the late changes in Fishdom. The loss doesn't seem as disappointing knowing how hard Miami seems to be trying to win even in preseason. Agree - they were better than 1-15 last year and definitely could win half their games this year with all the changes.

I got nuthin'

You said it.

CupidStunt 08-24-2008 05:53 AM

It's a stupid preseason game. Speaking to the first teams only, the run defense was OK, the pass-rush needs work (and game-planning, Dorsey's development and blitzing will help), coverage was solid, safeties were horrible and the LBers were a patchwork unit that did OK. Offensively, the two tackles weren't terrible, and as we all know it should be Albert at LT, Herb or someone at RT, so that's not too bad. The interior was terrible and that's a concern, as is the terrible WR core, and the pussybitch running the rock for shitty gains every time. QB? Meh, Croyle was not that bad. Absolutely not good, but not as bad as some seem to think. Let's wait until he fudges up against real competition and doesn't throw down the field before we crucify him.

Preseason. The Patriots look like steaming dogshit in preseason. Let's just get over it.
