SimCity

The new SimCity game comes out tomorrow.

Anyone getting it? The videos I've seen have looked incredible.

Saulbadguy 03-04-2013 06:08 PM

I preordered it. Haven't read much about it.

SAUTO 03-04-2013 06:10 PM

Never played one, but my 8 year old daughter loves building stuff in games., she has the limited free version of minecraft, and only plays creative mode lol. She loves building whatever she can.

Would this game be ok for her?

It's probably a bit too advanced. It's rated Everyone 10 and up, but there's a certain economy to the game that Minecraft creative mode lacks.

However, if you get it for her and teach her how to play it would probably be great.

Tomb Raider and SimCity are on my to do list.

Imon Yourside 03-04-2013 06:14 PM

Preordered it, will pick it up at Best Buy tomorrow....Loved the first 3.

Buck 03-04-2013 06:16 PM

I just pre-ordered on Amazon.com...

I won't get it until the 7th, but I got a $20 promotional credit.

I'm going out tomorrow night, but on Wednesday I'll have to live with watching streams.

Buck 03-04-2013 06:18 PM

And I haven't read too much into this aspect, but I guess there is multiplayer so we could theoretically create a CP map where we all have our own little cities.

I did this a couple weeks ago.

I'm up for a chiefsplanet region.

I've been playing SimCity since SimCity 2000. 3000 was my favorite, but 4 was great, too. I've been following this reboot since it was first reported.

dang. I onlly have a console.

wish they'd come out with a legit Flight Simulator on console, but I doubt that would ever happen.

Sim City and Flight Simulater might make it worth it to get a sufficient gaming rig.

WV 03-05-2013 09:11 AM

Reading some pretty negative reviews about the Origin part of this game. It seems pretty silly to make an internet connection mandatory for this game.

Is it from fans or game industry magazines/sites? There's a rather vocal minority of SimCity diehards that hated the internet mandate and multiplayer aspects of the game.

They swear that EA has ruined their game. I'm somewhat sympathetic, but overall, I'm optimistic for the game.

And reviews are so far very positive.

bowener 03-05-2013 12:15 PM

Are there any torrents for this yet? I am guessing EA went to the internet mandate so that it would be harder to pirate. I honestly want to try this game before I drop $60 on it. I absolutely love these games, but I tend to get burnt out pretty quick. I want to make sure there isn't an issue with information overload for me.

I doubt it. It's not really compatible with a console. It's a lot of pointing and clicking and dragging.

Mainly customer reviews. I know they have to be taken with a grain of salt, but some made some real sense. I don't quite get the internet or Origin requirement either.

For some good news though, you don't really need a high-end system to run it.

I'm not a PC gamer, so I'm not really familiar with Steam. But in order to run this SimCity you have to have an internet connection and be logged into or have Origin running. I haven't researched it very much though. I'm not ready to drop $59 on a SimCity game.

hometeam 03-05-2013 07:36 PM

It is exactly EA's version of steam.

I use both liberally. Steam has way more games, and a much better interface, but overall they fulfill the same function.

RedDread 03-06-2013 08:57 AM

This has been awful so far. The game is fantastic but I can only log in to one server in Europe. The city I created is now STUCK on that server. I was able to switch but you have to go through the tutorial on EVERY server you connect to. On top of that if it bugs out you effectively can't use that server at all.

A friend and I played musical servers and between not being able to connect and the bugs from the tutorial, and we could not join a server and play in the same region in-game. This launch has been a travesty. You launch a major title that people have been waiting for FOR YEARS and you only have 4 US servers available. FOUR!?!?

This is the last time I will buy a single player game that requires a dedicated internet connection. I've learned my lesson with Diablo 3 and now this. Done. I'm also done with EA.

ChiefsLV 03-06-2013 09:16 AM

I would like to say I learned my lesson with Diablo 3 which I paid $60 for and probably put about 15 hours into before I became horribly bored with it but I did play the beta of he new SimCity and I did have it on preorder through newegg. Then the day of release, newegg canceled my preorder because they were out of stock so I missed out on any other preorder deals I could have taken advantage of like the $20 amazon credit. The whole preorder situation along with the stories coming out about waiting in 30 minute queues to play or having your city corrupt have totally soured it for me now.

kaplin42 03-06-2013 10:40 AM

I'm not defending EA in the slightest, having the online DRM shit that you must use in order to play if a joke. But it is what it is. I can see their view on the servers though.

Why have 10 servers at launch, it's a waste of money. A week from today, those servers won't ever be close to getting bombarded like they currently are. It only sucks now because the game just launch, give it a few days and this will be a distant memory.

Still a stupid system, but all the bitching about wait times is really pointless.

Or they could have built it so a server farm(10+) appears as one US server. Make it so you could add and remove servers without loss of data. When the demand dies a bit remove some servers and add them to the launch of the next big game.

Imon Yourside 03-06-2013 10:53 AM

Ok it appears I spoke too soon, set up my game...hit pause for about a half an hour and now I cannot connect to my PRIVATE OFFLINE CITY at this time? WTF? Can't wait for the Pirate version...**** this noise. The DRM is shit with this one.

Mr. Laz 03-06-2013 02:49 PM

Isn't this sim city another 'always on' internet pain in the ass?

bowener 03-06-2013 03:47 PM

Alright, I'm definitely waiting for a pirated copy now. I am hoping SKIDROW comes out with one that lets you fake being online, and just lets you play alone or whatever. Is there a fake origin out there floating around? I know there is a fake steam that lets you play cracked steam games with others that have cracked games too.

Did anyone create a CP city yet?

hometeam 03-06-2013 07:04 PM

Im thinking about buying this but i just bought the arma 3 alpha last night... Any first hand accounts? Compared to sim city 4?

edit; woops my bad skipped a few posts. Still, I am fine with always online, so besides that gripe, how is the actual game?

Sannyasi 03-06-2013 07:15 PM

The game doesn't look bad, but I think I'm going to just play one of the old Sim City's and let that scratch my itch. The small size of the cities looks pretty lame, and I don't want to support EA's restrictive DRM. I'll be checking this thread to see how you guys like it though, this is one of my favorite franchises.

If you want in there are 7 city locations within so give me your Origin username and we'll make it happen.

At this rate it wont be long until its 19.99 on steam~ May have to wait on this one.

As I mentioned this before, the game itself if FANTASTIC aside from the city size issue thing. They said they'll be doing something about that in the future.

My god though, I hope enough stupid housewives buying hats and dildos in the Sims keep Maxis in the black long enough for them to get away from EA. It breaks my heart to see one of my favorite developers from my childhood ass****ed and milked by these shitheads.

Amazon Stops Selling SimCity

Quote:

In what must be a big blow for EA and Maxis, Amazon has stopped selling download copies of the just released SimCity. The game has at time of writing received 833 reviews on Amazon, and has an average rating of just one star. That’s because 740 of those are one star reviews. Only 20 people gave it 5 stars. There’s few better ways to gauge how a game has been received, and this is pretty damning as to how EA has handled the launch.

A note has been posted by Amazon underneath the “Currently unavailable” message. It states that many customers are having connection issues and they have no idea when it will be fixed. As we reported earlier, EA is bringing new servers online over the next 2 days to try and solve the problem, and Maxis is fixing bugs as quickly as they can, but server architecture issues are hampering them.

It's basically the same thing. Fun, though.

hometeam 03-07-2013 06:46 PM

Tropico 4 is the exact same game as 3.

I came home tonight and first thing I did was open Origin

I found SimCity, and started clicking around. I noticed the british/french/german whatever packs., and then it hit me. SimCity is going to be just like The Sims, where its constant tiny content packs for a bunch of money, and they try to nickel and dime you into having 3 or 400 bucks invested in the game.

Then I closed Origin.

Buck 03-07-2013 06:48 PM

By the way, I just talked to Amazon and they are refunding me my $60+.

I already used the product code to activate on Origin. No telling if I get to keep the game or not.

In case you bought a physical copy from Amazon, they shouldn't give you any trouble should you want to return it.

You do have to ship it back to them though.

Silock 03-07-2013 06:52 PM

I don't want to return it . . . I just want it to work.

I really just want a pirated copy that works offline. Maxis/EA already has my money. Now, I want a working product.

Piracy wins again.

Of the 5 hours I've spent trying to play, I got a good 10-20 min in.

Silock 03-07-2013 06:57 PM

I've spent about 11 hours with it, through fortunate use of Euro servers before it launched there. It's a fun game, right up my alley. The launch has been botched to shit, though. Not even World of Warcraft was this bad when it first came out, and its release was pretty awful.
