MMO Players and Games

In another thread it was mentioned that MMO players should create their own thread because it is a different style of game than most others. So I thought why not. We can keep track of what the planet is playing, talk about different games and maybe even set up groups and or guilds.

Which leads me to my second thought on this. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in forming a casual static group in some of these older games. Once a week or so a full group gets into a game and rolls. I was thinking EQ, only because it's old, free, and with a full group of good players, that game was amazing. But I'm open to other suggestions. I would love to hear if anyone is interested.

If no one is interested, I will edit out the second paragraph and we can just keep this as a general MMO thread.

List of people interested in a static group:

Kaplin42
Fruit Ninja
Molitoth
HomeTeam -- Won't play EQ
Jerm -- Would like to play WoW, willing to play EQ
TrickyNicky -- Not sure if interested or just suggesting Shards of Dalaya
DC Chief - Won't play EQ
Javabean -- No EQ/WoW
Buck -- Would like secret world

So by my count that is people so far. We should at least pick a game that has a larger group sizes so we can get the most people in. My buddy has been talking GW2 up to me, but tbh, I know nothing about it. Lets see if we can agree on a game. Even if we don't get everyone into the static, we will always need subs, plus we can all be guilded together.

hometeam 04-12-2013 06:16 PM

Im an MMO player. Wouldn't touch EQ with a ten foot pole.

I do however maintain 5 level 80 characters on gw2, which is free, and would play with CPers whenever.

Jerm 04-12-2013 06:33 PM

Swore off MMOs for a while after WoW consumed me.....been thinking about getting back into it though, and with WoW.

kcxiv 04-12-2013 07:15 PM

id maybe play Everquest a little. I have a 78 level Necro. Gear sucks now days, Used to be the best you can get lol. I have a few other characters of various levels like a 60 or so Berserker and im not sure what else. lol He's on Bertox

kaplin42 04-12-2013 08:33 PM

I was thinking with a static group it would be from level 1. No twinking, just earn it. But with a full group, that would be hard at all. Major quest lines, harder dungeons, with a group of people that knew what they were doing it would be awesome.

Part of the reason I was thinking of EQ was a little selfish. I love CC, and would want to play the chanter. No other game except maybe Vanguard uses CC.

Like I said though, I'm open to what ever a group wants to play. I also love to tank, so that is available in every game.

Molitoth 04-12-2013 09:07 PM

I have a 50 paladin and 50 ranger on eq project1999 server. Free.
50 disciple on vanguard. Free.
65 paladin on whatever server tribunal is now days. But I won't pay for eq play.

If you guys want to start fresh eq, WWW.project1999.org is the way to go. Its eq setup the exact way it was back then.

I would be down for this totally. But should be noted that you can play on the live EQ servers, Vox specifically for free, and no twinks on that server. Either way, it would be fun.

Any others for EQ static group. Come on, some of you must be masochists, I mean, we hang out on the planet, all of us like to be punished is some form. EQ is old, the graphics aren't great, but the challenge is awesome, and not dumbed down like every other game out there, and with a static group, we could tear it up. And seriously, if you have never camped Lower Guk for the FBSS, you don't even know what you're missing.

TrickyNicky 04-13-2013 05:37 AM

Ever played Shards of Dalaya? Its basically EQ remixed.

OmahaChief 04-13-2013 12:07 PM

If I could find the time I would love to but with good weather coming the kids will most likley keep me busy.

Same.
I played for 5yrs with a couple of rl friends & of course a ton of guild friends it also consumed us as well.
Haven't played for 3yrs now totally over it never to look back then one of my rl friends I played with says ..hey I logged onto my WoW account want me to send you the free week invite?....ugh..maybe..our characters and 7 slotted guild banks still there..ugh..my wife will kill me..so send you the invite?
I haven't said yes yet however I'm bored with Halo4 and black ops I need a game like WoW right now & he tells me its sooo different its like playing a new game.
I'd love to jump back in but can I keep it from being like before is the question.
Putting off chores to go on a raid..leveling for hours on end...farming materials so on and so forth.

DC.chief 04-15-2013 09:13 AM

Good thread idea. I use to invest a lot of time in MMOs (certainly too much) but i've been away from them a long while and i've been feeling the itch. Main thing that has kept me from getting back into one is none of my real life friends play anymore and my e-friends all moved on. Its much more enjoyable for me when you actually know the people in the guild. I may not post a lot on here but i'm on these forums almost all day. I think it'd fun to get a CP group thing going.

I'm looking foward to elder scrolls online and the new FFXIV when they come out myself. I use to play WoW. Have a few 85s but haven't touched mist of pandoria yet though. I'd be down to try WoW again. Not really interested in EQ though.

Javabean 04-15-2013 09:43 AM

I have 5 level 80 characters in GW2 and am still playing that quite a bit. I'm also in the beta for Neverwinter and will be playing that when it launches in a few weeks.

I'm not interested in playing WoW or EQ again, but if you guys want to hook up in Neverwinter, I'd be up for that. It's a cross between DDO and Star Trek Online -- kind of like DDO with action combat and user-created dungeons/missions -- and with its impending launch, it would be a good time to start a new levelling group.

loochy 04-15-2013 03:04 PM

I just started playing Lord of the Rings Online. I'm a level 11 Hunter named Loochaldo

I've been playing LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) since Aug. 2012. I've got a level 81 (almost 82) guardian named Odowulf, and a level 14 loremaster named Nedferth.

keg in kc 04-15-2013 09:19 PM

I played LotRO from 2008 until 2011, when, after a period of months away from the game I came back to find my account had been hacked and all my equipment looted.

Literally every person that I played LotRO with was hacked at some point or another, several of them multiple times. Just be aware of that...

It was a great game from early on through Moria. Unfortunately their content release schedule changed after that and rather than large scale bi-monthly releases they started releasing single maps (Lothlorien, Mirkwood, that's as far as I got). I found that it just wasn't enough to keep me interested (my favorite part of the game was the story progression, so adding raids really did nothing for me). Not coincidentally I think, they went free-to-play about that time, and while it was good for the survival of the game, the general quality of the server population seemed to plummet (which was my initial and ongoing fear with my current game, swtor).

It's not a bad game, I just don't see myself ever playing it again, especially not after a year and a half in swtor (which just came out with a pretty amazing small expansion, btw). I logged into LotRO a couple months back just for shits and giggles, and it just seemed so dated to me.

But...I hope you guys continue to enjoy it. I played it for literally years, and aside from the hack (and Turbine CS's refusal to replace anything I lost) I have nothing but fond memories.

OP Updated

TrickyNicky 04-16-2013 09:57 AM

im willing to play anything that is f2p. i just really enjoyed Shards of Dalaya. With a group or two we could go for adept runs.

ModSocks 04-16-2013 10:05 AM

I play WoW Right now. I actually started playing WoW back in Beta testing, and quit playing it a few months before the 1st expansion was released. I quit playing it for about 6-7 years and recently came back to it about a year ago.

Yeah, the game has changed a lot. The introduction to Transmogrification has made old raids relevant again in addition to all of the new content. The addition to Arena Seasons etc was all new to me when i came back.

I play with my wife and brother in law every night. We've pretty much substituted it for T.V. If it wasn't for football, i'd probably cancel my DirecTV.

But, MMO's can envelope you. You can get lost all day in one.

That's why i treat it the same way i do marijuana. Don't do it until your day is over and you've done everything you need to do that day. Including working out.

Yep.

Biggest mistake I (repeatedly) make is logging into SWTOR for a few minutes after I wake up to set up some crew skills and missions (aka crafting). Next thing I know it's bedtime and I'm wondering where the day has gone.

hometeam 04-16-2013 08:51 PM

If people wanted to do gw2 I already have the chiefsplanet guild founded and a modest amount of gold/equip, as well as basically every role level 80 character to support with. Unfortunately GW2 is not technically 'free' its buy to play. One time buying the game and free access after that. As for other MMOs I have an open mind to playing pretty much anything that isnt a massive grind. So no Korean MMO's , WoW, or EQ

I started playing at the release of BC. I go hot and cold with how much I play. Been cold for a few months. My guild gave up trying to get me to tank things for them finally. That's the nice thing about not logging on for days at a time.

listopencil 04-17-2013 01:19 AM

Oh, and if WoW does one more 5 level expac I'm done. **** diminishing returns.

Sent a PM requesting an invite.

GW2 and Neverwinter are my first choices, but I could probably be talked into trying The Old Republic again. I had a level 47ish Jedi Guardian and a couple of other characters in the teens.

Also, if you guys aren't digging Neverwinter, another "MMO" releasing soon is Marvel Heroes. It's not a classic MMO, though -- it's basically an iteration of Diablo with Marvel characters. But it'll be F2P, and if you like Diablo and Marvel, you should like this a lot.

I cant get into Marvel Heroes at all, I was in one of the first wave of Beta invitations and have tried it during multiple beta sessions. Seems like a clunky crappy diablo 2 with licensing.

RedDread 04-17-2013 11:31 PM

If Bethesda does not totally screw it up, my next one will be Elder Scrolls Online.

It is a Diablo 2 clone with licensing, although I'd say it's a well-done Diablo 2 clone -- much better than Diablo 3, at least. But if you don't like those kinds of games, you won't like Marvel Heroes.

loved d2, and put in 350 hours or so and 3 80s on d3. Marvel heros just felt.. awkward, slow, not... fun.. I guess?

Doesn't give me the same enjoyment I get from firing up Torchlight2 thats for sure.

Jerm 04-19-2013 10:21 PM

Just to be clear, I'd be down to play EQ...never have but I'd def. would.

Lzen 04-20-2013 07:38 AM

Oh man I spent a lot of hours in EQ on the Sony PS 2 about 9-10 years ago. The last version wad EQ Frontiers. Had a level 55 (out of 60) elf ranger and a good group of friends I met in game that I played with regularly. Good times.

Buck 04-20-2013 09:47 AM

I want to play The Secret World with people. I bought it and played for a while with myself, but haven't touched it in a while. If someone I knew wanted to play I would immediately get back into it.

kaplin42 04-22-2013 09:05 AM

So we can either decide here, or make another thread that would just be a poll on what game to play.

Although it looks like maybe GW2 or some other newer game would be the winner.

Im ok with exploring other games, just not grindfests like WoW, EQ, AION, other korean type games etc.

As of now I see 4 active and about 9 inactive players on my CP guild invite lists. 2 of the active players have not accepted invites, even though in GW2 you can be in as many guilds as you want. So not like there is a ton of interest there either, unless we started playing as a group.

Most of the CP crew was on Yaks Bend server, now, each of the 4 active CPers that I know of on GW2 are all on different servers.
