Redditors of Chiefs Planet

I searched for other threads, but they all have been archived.

I was just curious what subs you guys check most often? Unfortunately I am on reddit all the ****ing time... probably addicted.

r/Futurology and r/screenwriting are probably my most visited at the moment.

Also, I find myself wishing the threads here worked on karma so we could easily filter the trash and garbage to the bottom.

Discuss Thrower 05-15-2014 10:52 PM

Bestof is always great. I don't visit frugal itself, but when it shows up on my frontpage I like to read it. The NFL and KCChiefs ones I never visit. That is what this silly place is for. DayZ is a pretty awesome sub if you play the game or just like reading about it and seeing silly shit people do (I'm in the latter half).

Books is another great one. This is pretty hilarious to me.

r/DIY is inspiring. r/justiceporn can be fun. r/iAMA and r/askscience are usually interesting. Bill Murray did an AMA a few months back that was amazing. I do filmmaking/editing subs, as well as Chiefs/NFL, although they don't have anything on CP.

Buns 05-15-2014 11:24 PM

I have to admit I open most Advice Animals links that are on my Front Page.

I hope you all are using RES!

I tried Reddit. Hated it. I'm perfectly content getting my news here.

Sannyasi 05-15-2014 11:33 PM

Part of the fun of reddit is finding those oddly specific subreddits for your particular interests. I visit /r/opieandanthony, /r/rawdenim, /r/hiphopheads, and /r/incremental_games almost daily, along with many of the defaults.

That is what makes reddit awesome. I cannot say I delve to deep into any of them at this moment, but when I move and get some more space I am probably going to get back into wood working, and thus r/woodworking.

I am about to start helping my friend build an arcade cabinet so we have been on r/cade quite a bit lately.

Honestly, this is where all men should start. If you did not start here last time, then you were failed by whoever pointed you toward reddit.

Go forth, Guru, and click!

And since you aren't Omaha, you can click around here as well!

edit: AH! Damn you, reddit! Brilliant. r/gonewild is being used in protest for net neutrality. Slooooooow loading thumbs.

Here, Guru, this is a more mild example of gonewild. Somewhere in the world today this woman thought so little of her self that she posted this for all the web to see or she was attention whoring... either way who gives a ****.

I'm at work so I will refrain from clicking on any of those links.

beyond that I also browse r/all and visit tons of subreddits based on front page content

Me too. It is a headache to use. Nothing seems organized. It's all gibberish every where. I couldn't figure out a useful way to use it.

blaise 05-16-2014 10:59 AM

I use a playwriting opportunities link on reddit, but I link to it through a group on facebook.

every possible subject is organized by subreddit, which is organized based on the users likes or dislikes of the content. You can choose what subreddits appear in your main feed or browse them all independently.

See this confuses me. It is possibly the most organized website out there.

The interface takes a few minutes to get used to, but it isn't bad.

The first page you come to is "the frontpage." That is showing you a mixture of the top voted threads/links from the 25 preset (soon to be 50) subreddits.

If you create a user name, it becomes much easier, because you can edit the subs you want to see. When you are on the front page only the subs you subscribe to show up. You can click on the top left tab "my subreddits" and select a specific sub you want to look at (like r/science).

Once in the science subreddit that page is based on the most upvoted thread/link. Inside of each thread are comments. The most upvoted comment (almost always the best answer to a question or the funniest response or the best/worst story) is at the top. Indented beneath that is the first response so forth and so on.

The more I use reddit the more I wish Chiefs Planet used the karma system (upvoting/downvoting posts) so that good posts would rise to the top, and I wouldn't have to waste my time wading through hundreds of redundant or shit posts.

Yeah, but the karma system promotes a hivemind like none other.

This place doesn't have a hive mind?

But a traditional BBS at least allows for dissenting opinions to be seen.. Reddit's karma system shuts these views down by downvote nuking.
