Hakim Chiefs contract voided by league

Chiefs | Why Hakim Left
Tue, 21 Jun 2005 19:29:57 -0700

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports WR Az-Zahir Hakim left the Kansas City Chiefs to sign with the New Orleans Saints because his one-year deal for $665,000 was voided by the league because of some of the provisions in the contract. Because some of the provisions were one of the reasons why he signed with the Chiefs, he decided to walk away from the Chiefs and call the Saints.

I just carefully checked the first 3 pages of the board and if I somehow missed the original post. I'm sorry

I'm glad the league can move so fast on this, while taking 12 months to figure out Warfield's suspension...

Yeah, the actual Clayton piece is this:

$50k break
Az-Zahir Hakim ended up getting $50,000 above the $665,000 NFL minimum salary by signing with the New Orleans Saints. Still, it was weird how he ended up in New Orleans.

Hakim signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs for the minimum. He was set to practice but the league office voided the contract because of some of the provisions. Because some of the provisions were one of the reasons why he signed in Kansas City, Hakim opted to leave the Chiefs and call the Saints with hopes of getting a contract.

He will make $715,000 as the Saints third wide receiver.

It's quite easy to see. Paul Tagliabue hates the Chiefs.

They're probably dragging their feet so that Warfield's suspension starts in January.
