With our players, what do you all think is the ideal defensive scheme?

Ok guys, this is my first official thread so I'll keep it basic. I wanted to see what you all think would be the best defensive scheme considering only our current player roster. I know a good deal about football, but a defensive coordinator job is unfortunately not in my future :( Also if this thread is in the wrong place let me know so that I can flagellate myself.

The best place for our defense is the bench.

CoMoChief 01-28-2009 02:46 PM

4-3, for now.

JuicesFlowing 01-28-2009 02:58 PM

Tampa 2 with NO pass rush and weak LBs. Works brilliantly. Oh wait ...

aturnis 01-28-2009 03:32 PM

The one that works.

4-3 with an aggressive blitz scheme. IE: Giants or Eagles.

If we get a 3-4 coach we could do a 3-4 with a couple of decent FA aquistitions. But I still think that the new HC and DC should stick with a 4-3 as the base scheme and audible to 3-4 when necessary. JMO though...

Depends who we pick up in free agency and the draft.

Nickle.. seriously.. the only talent we seem to have is in the defenesive backfield.. so NICKLE.. all DAY!

lol

Aggressive, man coverage, blitz heavy 4-3.

I believe all teams that run the 3-4 use the 4-3 still too.

The one that let's us use 16 guys instead of 11. There would still be a bend don't break factor but we could hold teams under 20.

Fritz88 01-28-2009 04:20 PM

we have bad protection against the run, we need to find something that will counter that.

We have decent CBs and we can defend the pass well if we improve our pass rush.

I really don't know. Gun screwed things up last year..

RustShack 01-28-2009 04:21 PM

I don't think Gun will build a great defense in Detroit, probably not even top 10...but I think he can make a better one there than he could here.

Detroit was ranked 32nd, we were ranked 31st...sky's the limit.

I just think he can have more success under Schwartz who he coached with in Tennessee than he ever could under air ball Vermiel and Tampa Two Herm.
