Bomb Exploded at Boston Marathon Finish Line

I've heard an unconfirmed report (a co-worker's girlfriend called him) that there was a bomb at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, with people injured. I am hearing multiple sirens, though I'm not in the Copley area.

Demonpenz 04-15-2013 01:08 PM

Hope they catch whoever the ****ers were that did this. Seriously demented.

Definitely. People definitely pack in for the marathon. If nobody died then that's a pretty major blessing.

Nothing against the OKC marathon, but let's be serious, the Boston Marathon is very high profile. OKC is, well, not. Whatever sick bastards did this wanted publicity, and I doubt they had their list as (1) Boston, (2) OKC, (3)...

I agree, but OKC people might be a little sensitive to terrorist acts.

CaliforniaChief 04-15-2013 01:23 PM

Of course it's WAY too early to know anything, but isn't it al Qaeda SOP to have 2 explosions? 1 draws in people to help, and the 2nd is the killer.

While your joke is a bit early to be tasteful, I appreciate the clever use of history.

For those of you who are like "umm, WTF is he talking about", he's referring to the Boston Molasses Disaster, which killed a couple dozen and wounded over a hundred.

Fair enough.

Though I suspect we'll find out soon whether this was domestic terrorism, as OKC was, or foreign, as 9/11 was.

Whoever they are, I hope they DIAF.

There's alot of everything in Boston. It's nowhere near the size of NYC or anything, but it's incredibly diverse.

You're right though -- if this gets tracked to some specific country...

Latest from CNN is below. if they had timed it to happen as the early runners were crossing the finish line, I'm sure the casualties would have been much worse.

Boston (CNN) -- A pair of explosions rocked the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, injuring at least a half-dozen people, a CNN producer at the scene said.

The blasts occurred a few seconds apart, shrouding downtown Boston's Copley Square in smoke. Paramedics were treating several victims at the scene, and police ordered onlookers to back away from the area, CNN Producer Matt Frucci reported.
The explosions occurred about 2:45 p.m., about an hour after the first runners had crossed the finish line, Frucci said.

It does seem like odd timing? Horrible that it happened, but seemingly fortunate that the effort was a little half hearted.
