Since tOSU and KU would have no conflict with one another on preferred site, being the overall #1 would be strictly for pride. (Ohio State would want the East, Kansas would want Southwest) Duke and Pitt would also both want East or Southeast before settling on Southwest.
If you get your preferred region, then a #1 is a #1, there's not much difference on the S-curve. Kansas needs to avoid being the last #1 (no one wants to go West), and they need to stay ahead of Texas. If Kansas wins the Big 12 tourney, they are in good shape. If they lose in the championship game to anyone but Texas, they might still be OK. If Kansas fails to reach the championship game, they might go west or fall off the top line.
