Gun Battle - Police Versus 107 Year-Old
 

I blame video games. Dude probably spent all of his free time playing some World I first-person shooter running through the Argonne and Belleau Wood.

I would also think that if you managed to keep yourself out of trouble for 107 years, you'd be a pretty safe bet to not get into a gun battle with police. But I guess everyone eventually has a limit before they snap.

(CNN) -- A man who police said was 107 years old was killed in a confrontation with SWAT officers Saturday night.
Police were called to a home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where suspect Monroe Isadore was.

"When they arrived, they were able to determine that an aggravated assault had occurred against two people at the residence," Lt. David E. Price, a Pine Bluff police spokesman, said in a statement.

The two victims were led out of the house.

It was not clear what role the suspect had in the aggravated assaults or what they were.

When officers approached a bedroom where Isadore was hiding, he fired through the door, authorities said.

None of the police officers was hit by the gunfire. They retreated to a safer area and called for additional help, including SWAT officers who started negotiations with the suspect.

SWAT officers slipped a camera into the room where Isadore was holed up and saw he was armed with a handgun, Price said.

After unsuccessful negotiations, officers slipped gas into the room through a window, he said, and Isadore fired rounds at them.

The officers broke the bedroom door and hurled in a distraction device, and Isadore fired at them again, according to the spokesman's statement.
Officers returned fire, killing him.

It's unclear what distraction device was used. No more information was immediately available. CNN called the police department, but could not reach anyone.

In 2010, there were about 53,000 people over age 100 in the United States, according to the latest Census numbers. Only 8% of them were older than 104.

Ban 107 year olds.

Of course only 8% of them are over 104 years old. They are all dead from the gun battles.

You know they still called it shell shock then. Maybe his shell shock finally kicked in.

Further investigation revealed that this old guy was deaf or almost deaf and was legally blind. Never mind that the neighbors tried to tell the SWAT jackboots this fact. It is "come out or we'll shoot." Never mind if the old coot is deaf. But they DID try to use robots and tear gas first, so what the hell.

I have no clue if the guy just went nuts or what. I just know there was a day and age when your local sheriff could find a way to disarm the crazy 107 year old in town without terrifying the guy into retreating into a room where he feels the need to shoot through a closed door at an unknown target beyond.

The guy sees a large group of ninjas in his living room, retreats, and hears a cacophony of noise on the other side of his door.

How about standing down an hour or two and seeing if the old coot can be talked to.

Nope. Not in the modern jackbooted Nazi police state we have today. S.W.A.T captain Adolph is in tactical mode and he really needs to deliver some rounds down range, so lets gas the old coot than all of them bust through his bedroom door.

I am really ashamed of my government today. The militarization of the modern police state is just repulsive to me. Even my stinking dog catchers, who now go by the ominous title "Animal Control Officer", even they dress like Army Rangers today.
