no, you can download them other places, copy them to your phone and install them with a program called AppMonster or any File Manager.

you can search this place for all apps at the marketplace:

http://www.androidzoom.com

opera mini - my preferred browser
pdanet - connect phone to computer to internet. awesome when not around wifi
shazam - tells you what song is on
tunein radio - one of the best radio apps ive found
y! Music - nother music app i like (uses less batt than pandora)

wordfeud - scrabble against friends. fun.

Very belated props for TuneIn Radio. It was nice to be able to listen to postgame on the way to Wichita after the game without having to channel surf the whole way there. I just wish the damn NFL didn't have so many goofy contractual agreements that prevent TuneIn from streaming games.

I wasn't able to find the Philly/Green Bay game on the way and ended up just channel surfing for it on the AM.

I've gone back and forth about it. I used it for a while and really liked it, but I hate how much scrolling you have to do. I wish there were some options for configuring font sizes and whether the thread "preview" shows and that type of thing.

Right now, I'm just using http://m.chiefsplanet.com through the browser.

T-Mobile offered the G2 online for free, so I upgraded from G1... and it's given me a reason to look for the latest and greatest apps.

Has anyone used Open Home? I've tried several searches in the market, but all I ever come up with are skins.

Google Voice... used another visual voicemail app with the G1, but the G2 came with Voice. Free voice to text, and it emails you the audio and text... it's been out a while, obviously, but I didn't realize it was that much better than what I was using.

I never looked around for mobile FB chat for the G1, but found ebuddy, which looks pretty useful with FB, AIM, gtalk, msn, etc.

I downloaded Advanced Task Killer, because sometimes killing the browser helps when it's not downloading content, but I don't really think it's necessary for battery life... not from what I've noticed, anyway. And between the upgrade from 1.6 to 2.2, better processor speed, and having the apps in memory, the load time is basically like maximizing a window.

I downloaded Photoshop Express, but I've read there are better photo apps, and I'll probably try out a few different camera apps.

Mr Number call block is my new favorite app, because some douche in Wisconsin keeps asking for Vicki and I ran out of ways to say "You have the wrong number, stop calling me"... it does a simple pick up/hang up, almost always before the phone rings (granted, when he calls now it's usually 2 or 3 times within a few minutes... yeah, that must be frustrating getting hung up on like that. Dumbass.). /rant

The other Google apps are cool... navigation and maps of course, Earth, Goggles, Sky Map... they have a Listen app for audio feeds, podcasts, and news. It also has QuickOffice, Google Translate, a couple of news feeds and social media apps... great phone.

These are my must have apps... all free:

Dropbox (access up to 2GB of data in a predetermined folder on my home computer, can stream or d/l)

TeamViewer (basic VPN access to my home computer) - Not in the Market, you have to go to their website.

TV Shows (HUGE library of a bunch of TV shows)

Music Wizard (you can search and d/l any song you can search, then edit for a ringtone. you can also use it to listen to one single specific song w/o having to dl it)

Cox DVR (allows me to set recordings from my phone)

Wifi Manager (allows me to manage my wifi connections - widget)

Juice Defender (battery manager)

AdFree (removes the ads from the apps I dl - requires root)

Lookout (lets me find my phone if I lose it)

Wireless Tether (lets me use my phone as a wifi hotspot... FREE - requires root)

I just got my HTC Inspire 4g on Sunday. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of apps I want and need. I haven't rooted yet, but I plan to soon. :D
