Adelson to get 2016 GOP Convention for Vegas (over KC?)

Kansas City is a finalist for the 2016 GOP convention and it's estimated $350m or so in economic benefit, but according to this article it may not even matter:

Vegas or bust for Republicans

Las Vegas has a big advantage over the other five cities hoping to host the Republican National Convention in 2016: Sheldon Adelson.

Adelson — the owner of the Las Vegas Sands (which operates resorts and casinos all over the world, including the Venetian and the Palazzo in Vegas) — has a net worth of $40 billion, and he donated $100 million in 2012 to the campaigns of Newt Gingrich and then Mitt Romney.

“Sheldon is adamant that the GOP must go to Vegas,” said one source. Some GOPers fear that if Adelson doesn’t get his way, he’ll give a couple hundred million dollars to the Democrats just for spite.

The other five cities in contention are Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver and Kansas City.

Evangelical Christians oppose “Sin City” for the GOP party, saying it sends the wrong message, but Adelson “doesn’t want to hear it,” said my source.

Id love to see it in KC but for the life of me I cannot imagine it happening. City leadership can **** up a one man parade.

With Kansas and Missouri now both solidly red for Presidential votes, it would make sense they'd go to Ohio. However, as we saw in 2012, each party lost the state in which they had their conventions anyway so it may not even matter.

KC isn't going to get it, I wouldn't want to come here, Las Vegas is a fun city.

I have seven point one million reasons, to agree with this fools statement above.

The teabaggers are going to be thrilled if Las Vegas is chosen in order to appease to one guy--a guy who cares about one issue (support of Israel) that the teabaggers are against.

HonestChieffan 04-06-2014 02:10 PM

No doubt people are on the edge of their seats to see where a convention will be. And Cosmo...who is against support of Israel?

I sure didn't care, but the appeasement of Adelson, if true, is kind of interesting, and pathetic.

Teabaggers. I'm talking about financial support. Military support. Any support beyond mild verbal support.

Conservatives and Republicans have generally supported Israel with no objections, who are you talking about. That was going on far before one rich guy in Nevada came along. Military, equipment, training its been going on a long time there skippy and whoever you are talking about must be in your mind onlly

If this was the 60's it would all be about which had the best looking hookers.

This is our era.

The country's income inequality has officially reached 1920's levels and the entire GOP is bending over backwards for one billionaire.
