Car people of CP... I need a new car.
My Focus SVT's transmission just bit the dust and I am tired of putting money into this damn car. Gonna buy a new one and drive that ****er off the lot.
I would prefer a 2 door car. Hatch is a plus. I need the car to be sporty/fast as I do autocross. Manual gearbox. Around 25k to spend or so. No GM products. Suggestions? |
DeLorean. It meets every requirement you have.

I know you said no GM, but the Pontiac GTO's are some seriously fast cars, love em.
|
Golf GTI?
I have the regular 2.5 but wanted a GTI badly. Fun as shit to drive |
And I wish one had bought a six speed. I'm definitely giving them all shit over it

And I've driven them. They are pretty fun. People usually aren't shy about letting me drive their cars lol. Hell some have even let me drive their cars after riding in mine with me. Lol

Yep. I like the G8s as well. Forget the trim package but the beefy ones are bad ass.

I've heard just go with a cooler and bypass the radiator itself

I forget the models, but I saw a two door hatched Subie that was fast as shit.
And a Golf that was some designator....not this usual TDI etc. can't remember, but also fast as shit. |
Genesis Coupe or get an no-sti WRX Hatch. Yes its 4 doors, but they are super easy to mod and rock autocross, especially with coilovers.
Don't listen to anyone telling you to pick a FWD drive car. I like some of the others picks, but you said NEW car. |

Not a whole lotta wiggle on the 25k. I'm expecting to get around 2500-3k for my car in its current condition. I'd like then end price to be at or below 25k. |
300z? Probably used though.

I would throw a vote in for Honda CR-Z, but i don't think it's much of a racer. |

R32 I tink is around 270hp v6. Something like that.
Low miles ones can be had for probably 20kish I would think |
Gti
Fiesta ST Focus St Probably the top 3 I would go for considering your criteria, I believe all have been on Car and Drivers 10 best (possibly not the Fiesta, but most are raving about the new ST.) |

Drop 20 k on a used one and buy a pro charger blower. My brother is the lead machinist and has been there since day one. :D
Now THAT would be fun. |

That 2.0 TURBO needs just a little massaging and it could be a firebreathing monster, capable of sub 12 second quarter mile times and blistering fast laps around a track. Or, do like I said and gut that WRX. My WRX made 362 WHEEL horsepower (something like 450 for you factory HP types) with just a little baby 2.0 turbo motor. And no, that's not a wind up toy Honda, this made that power at 4k rpms and held it and 300+ foot pounds of torque across redline. Now they make even more HP and torque with same mods, because they are all packing the 2.5 liter. For the LOVE of god dont pick a FWD car |
CRZ takes about 9-10 seconds 0-60, blah suspension and Chasis, and only 2 seats. Boring to drive hybrid that just looks like it has sporting pretensions.

Dude, if you can survive a little longer, VW, is about to roll out the latest generation GTI, which for all intents and purposes is an Audi A3. It looks stunning and cranks out even more power, and has the best combo of chasis/suspension they have made yet.
|
For what PR wants to do that torque number would be obscene.
Love me some torque |

When my brother was running his blower with drag radials, I remember my vision going into a gray out sort of thing under hard acceleration.
Sleeper car to.....except for the whine of the blower. Buwwhhaaaaaa |
I have had a few cars in my day, but for what PR is looking for, I think my choices are well suited~
PICK ME PICK MEEE |
No offense but you're kinda doing this backwards. You said you want to autoX, what class do you want to run in? Street prepared, stock, modified, etc? Also do you want to be competitive?
I would say go here http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517 Look at the 2013 stock classifications and see which cars are in which class and what you want to run in. i.e. http://www.scca.com/assets/2013%20St...rer%205-17.pdf Then if you're still deciding you can ask people what they think of the cars you're looking at. |
Quote:
I would most certainly be running in a stock class. Also, the purpose of a race is to come in first... no? Of course I want to be competitive! lol Aside from it being stock, I don't much care class (a,b,c...) I'm in. |

I'm sure the BRZ/FRS is really popular I just don't know how much of a pain is is to get one since they are popular overall. Unfortunately we have a real dearth of new 'sports' cars lately. If you want new the selections might be a bit thin. |
One other point to everyone else. For autocross, raw power isn't always the best. Some of the best autoX cars are quick and well balanced but may not have a ton of raw power.
Take the GTO mentioned earlier, I like the car and think it can be made into a pretty decent track car but for autocross I don't think it works...too heavy even with the fun power. That said the GTO is coming back...it's the Holden, and it's coming back as the Chevy SS. |
You have a few options here:
All in one vehicle solution WRX, hatch if you're smart. Or FWD options Fiesta/focus ST, GTI (heavy/slow), Mazdaspeed 3, Mini. Or RWD with Daily Driver combo S2000 (the only option), Miata (if gay), 350z (heavy/slow), RX8 (perfect car but tard engine). I know your tastes from past threads, I just saved you a billion hours. Pick from above and find a stellar example. Good luck and don't settle for anything less than what you want or be hasty in your selection. |
Again, I keep telling you to wait a sec, but the 2015 Mustang will be built on the new EVOS platform and finally get IRS. I have seen some of the concepts, and are moving away from the retro look. I like it.
