The SFX reminded me of Sucker Punch. Hopefully the dialogue will be better.

The movie looks entertaining, but I just have one question. Why is a white guy the chosen one in a Japanese legend?

As for Reeves, I don't hate him at all really. I just go in expecting less than Oscar caliber acting. But to be honest, could anyone else have done Neo so well, I can't think of anyone else that I would want in that role.

Also I do find it cool how the Matrix movies made such an impression with him in martial arts and eastern culture.

Movie wasn't bad at all. In fact, they gave Reeves a very limited amount of lines, allowing it to not suck.

Saw a report that in dailies that it was looking at only bringing in ~$15 million for its first 5 days- with a budget of $135+ its sorely going to be a problem for the studio.

Just got home from seeing it with my son. We enjoyed it. I ended up going to the 3D version, even though I didn't want to, because I don't care for 3D movies. The 3D effects were unobtrusive. It had a really nice flow to it. My son (16 years old) said that at the end he expected something else to happen because he was sure that we had only been watching maybe an hour, but looked back and realized that he had certainly gotten a couple of hours of entertainment. I'm not saying it's a huge blockbuster super duper deal of a movie but I consider it money well spent.

The sheer number of good looking movies released on Christmas will cause this movie to suffer. Glad to hear the positive reviews, though. I had a feeling this might be another Sucker Punch - full of eye porn but a crappy movie underneath.

That's kinda what I thought too- just based upon rumblings before it was released that it was actually a pretty decent movie. Kinda falls on the studio for picking a release date against such heavy competition for hurting its box office. I'd bet if it was released in about a month it'd probably have a much stronger showing.

It was entertaining...
