Last nights game

Just a few thoughts about last nights game. Just trying to stir up some more talk bout the actual game.

The defense looked really good Dline specifically. Jackson and Gregg were around the ball alot. I am in agreement with milkman that Belcher is coming on very strong. Dbacks are strong. Berry flew around.

Watched Hudson closely. Looked good for the most part. Asamoah is gonna be a dandy i think.
Cassel had good zip but our Tackles didn't look too good imo.

I think we have sone rookies who will provide good depth and play key roles.
Maybe it's the homer in me but i think this will be an exciting year.

another thread that should have just been a post in another thread.

I know I know. I just feel there can never be enough chief threads on the front page, to discuss football. Sometimes the thread gets off topic and goes a different direction so I wanted to just have a thread about last nights game, which I now see there were already some. My bad.

I disagree.

Nothing wrong with starting this thread.

Too many honest football threads bring you down?

I was wanting to get in my take before Direkshun could.

durtyrute 08-20-2011 07:35 PM

did anyone else see the play where battle got the first down but they said it was third and a yard. Then he ran for like seven and I think we ended up punting because they ****ed us on the down and distance.

I mentioned in the Powe thread that I thought Richardson and Albert looked pretty good when they got their hands on the defenders.

The problem is, and one of teh reasons I don't like Bill Muir, is that he likes to teach and use the cut block as one of his primary tools in pass protect, but if the OT misses, he can not recover and teh QB is exposed.

Both OTs were getting beat on that last night.

DEs are just too athletic for the cut block to be consistently effective.

Yeah couldn't be more right. Thats how you gotta neutralize speed in my opinion is get you hands on the rusher, along with quick feet. I think both our tackles have the ability I they just need to move on from the cut block.

cut em deep ....

I think too many times when there is pressure on our qb it comes from our Tackles coming out of the stance slow and overextending. Instead of using their feet and hands they reach and get out of position.

that's a good point, but also...they had big time trouble with finding out who to block when teams overloaded them.

I was thinking all game that Haley and Harbaugh talked prior to the game so that Baltimore would bring those situations to the forefront so it gives Muir something to work with the OTs on during the week and beyond.

Yes, I did have my authentic teedubyaa tin foil hat on while thinking that.

Yeah, as I stated in another thread, one play when the Ravens stunted and Asamoah called it Richardson didn't drop and block the other guy and Asamoah jumped his ass. I fell that they try to think instead of being natural and using their eyes. Too many times instead of picking a guy to block or blocking hte inside guy who has a quicker path to the qb they block noone.

As i stated before I am very impressed with Hudson and Asamoah. They look very good next to each other.

T Jackson would have had a good game if "almost sacks" were a stat... otherwise the biggest highlight of his night was making 10 feet tall Joe Flacco look like Vick moving around in the pocket.

I also have a problem with the Chiefs approach to 3rd and long which showed up again early in the game with Cassel settling for a 2 yard give up play. The Chiefs have to lead the league in give up plays on 3rd and long.

In today's NFL, third and 7-10, while certainly a low % situation, should not be considered a give up play, yet the Chiefs seem far too content to either just run the ball or have Cassel throw a 2 yard safe pass.
