Chiefs might face QB Jeff Tuel Sunday.

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora 52s
Jeff Tuel will start at QB tomorrow for the Bills against the Chiefs. Matt Flynn is the No. 2. Thad Lewis is doubtful

loochy 10-30-2013 11:39 AM

i don't even know what this means

Maybe we can keep the streak going and face Osweiler in 3 weeks.

Tuel did not look good when he came in against the Browns.

I fear for this kids life against the Chiefs.

don't say that! he might pull a keenum on us

wink91wink 10-30-2013 11:42 AM

Could be Matt Flynn too!

Carlota69 10-30-2013 11:42 AM

It feels like a ploy, so we split time prepping for 2 QBs, instead of focusing on one.

the same was said for the kid in Houston...he didn't seem to impressed or scared of the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have made lots of QB's look all pro...in the past.

for some reason, I skimmed through and read the OP title as "Jethro Tull"

Holy shit - do they play Jethro Tull at their stadium???

Hopefully some chiefs fan will bring their boom box with a Black Betty cassette tape.

CleveSteve 10-30-2013 11:47 AM

Jeff Tuel was pretty bad at Washington State IMO. He was lost in the game against the Browns, but to be fair he came in off an injury [to Manuel] and probably had no practice reps leading up to the Thursday night game (short week.)

Thad Lewis is a "gamer" with some skills and is not afraid to take shots. He was our third-string guy for a couple years under Shurmur (man I hate typing Shurmur). While he might turn the ball over a couple times he at least is willing to try to make the play to get points. Tuel seems to be more conservative and is definitely more physically limited than Lewis.

If I were playing against the Bills again I'd rather see Tuel in there than Lewis.

JMPOV.

Mr. Arrowhead 10-30-2013 11:47 AM

What a Tuel

Frosty 10-30-2013 11:48 AM

Oh please, oh please, oh please

Tuel is awful.

ModSocks 10-30-2013 11:49 AM

Apparently he completed 72% of his passes this preseason. Apparently he's not THAT bad.

He had a full week to prepare as a starter. This kid also, is not Case Keenum. Not the accuracy, not the arm, not the moxy.

IN the 4th qtr against guys not playing in the league.

Beware. This is also the same argument people use against Bray.

TLO 10-30-2013 11:52 AM

Who?

Direckshun 10-30-2013 11:52 AM

Thad Lewis is their only chance.

Absolutely no chance they start Jeff Tuel. Tuel is atrocious.

Frosty 10-30-2013 11:53 AM

Keenum at least was productive in college. Tuel didn't even start all of the time at Wazzu.

No doubt. If we're facing Tuel, it's a win for sure. I just don't buy that we're facing him.

I don't buy it either.

Repeat after me: there is absolutely no chance we face Jeff Tuel.

Tuel is atrocious. There is no chance they win with him.

Lewis at least gives them an X factor. It ain't much of one, but Tuel brings absolutely nothing to the board.

They should probably let us return the opening kickoff, then both teams can down the ball and punt it off for the rest of the game.

Bob Sutton's been great, guys. Don't get me wrong at all. I love him and hope he continues to be our defensive coordinator for years to come.

But confound it, I was pretty pissed at him in the Texans game. Letting Keenum off the hook like that in the 1st half. You play conservative against him? THAT'S your gameplan? You be cautious?

You weren't cautious against dangerous QBs like Michael Vick or Tony Romo. You sure as hell weren't cautious against Blaine Gabbert. Even Mr. "Longest run by a QB in NFL History" wasn't respected at all by your defense. You blitzed the **** out of those guys, and won.

For God's sake, if you play grabass with any of these Buffalo backups for even ONE series, Bob. ONE SERIES. I will drive to Kansas City and kick you square in the balls.

Attack, Bob. Kill them. Kill kill kill. The question shouldn't be which Buffalo QB you're going to face. It's going to be WHEN you'll face EACH Buffalo QB because the others get so shell-shocked.

There is a huge difference between Case Keenum and Jeff Tuel

Keenum was a stud in college, Tuel won like 3 games

saphojunkie 10-30-2013 12:21 PM

Dude, that is two games.

Their third down conversions were awful.

Additionally, I really don't think you can put Campbell in that category, considering he was a first round pick in the same draft as Alex with plenty of starts under his belt.

No team has scored more than 17 points on us. If you feel 17 points and a loss is a backup looking like a stud, then I guess we just disagree on that.

No kidding. This is a bad thing.

I would be worried if I were you, Buck. Rivers is probably going to go on IR soon since the Chiefs game is coming up.

Wasn't Jeff Tuel the lead guitarist for the Scorpions in the late '80's?

Manning and Rivers should be more than enough. We'll get two more games against mobile QB's as well with RGIII and Pryor.

saphojunkie 10-30-2013 12:25 PM

Let me get this straight...

People are actually worried about our DEFENSE?

Buck 10-30-2013 12:26 PM

Yeah you'll probably face either Rivers or Manning in the playoffs too. I keep telling myself the Chargers aren't a playoff team, but then I look at the rest of the AFC.

DaWolf 10-30-2013 12:27 PM

We might see Flynn as well.

The key to this game is keeping the pressure off of Smith (I believe the Bills are second in sacks) not turning it over, and stopping the run. I doubt that who they start at QB will be the difference, because I doubt they'll be looking to throw it all over the field...

A lot of football left to be played. You still have to play the Donks and Chiefs two times each, and are only a full game ahead of Baltimore, Miami, and Tennessee and half of a game up on the NYJ for the last wildcard spot.

It's definitely a possibility at this point. Charger making the playoffs, I mean.

That shit is WIDE OPEN. There will be a team out there - Tennessee, Baltimore, Miami, even Houston - that realizes their struggles to this point haven't prevented a playoff run.

Someone is going to right the ship and get hot. Happens every year, but this year it really is open to anybody.

Except Jacksonville. They're just ****ed.

Mother****erJones 10-30-2013 12:41 PM

Well get the last shitty QB in and out of the way. Then we face Manning 2x, Rivers 2x, Luck, RG 3, Pryor

The way the year is going, the Chargers should definitely be considered to be a playoff team.

I don't know shit about the guy outside of what I saw when he came in for Manuel in that game against the Browns. He looked like absolute shit.

I really hope Sutton dials up the pressure this week. I'm tired of seeing these ****ing scrubs tear us apart.

BossChief 10-30-2013 01:03 PM

Flynn and Tuel split QB reps in practice today. No Lewis.

Jamaal Charles didn't practice, but Reid says the knee is ok. Just resting it.

At the same time, though, I can almost guarantee that those won't be the best games those QBs play all year.

Campbell was actually pretty dangerous. I could tell that we were doing our best to get to him for a sack or two, but the Cleveland offensive line is pretty damn good. Even when we were getting good pressure almost directly off the snap, Campbell managed to get the ball out of his hands before we could do anything.

Quesadilla Joe 10-30-2013 01:39 PM

LMAO

The Chiefs haven't faced a real QB in so long they won't know what to do with themselves when they come to Mile High.

Who knows. All we know for sure is that we've made established QBs in this league look like they deserved to ride the bench.

Then, guys that have proven time and time again that they deserve to ride the bench have come in and looked like they might deserve a second chance.

Your tackles looked great against Robert Mathis and Erik Walden.

Hope they look equally as good against Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

ThaVirus 10-30-2013 01:44 PM

Really, my biggest issue was with our first half game plan against Keenum.

I can understand not sending the house because you really have no idea what you're getting yourselves into with a rookie. The problem was, we were getting absolutely no pressure AND we were having issues covering down field because of it. We were consistently giving up big plays in the passing game because.. we were afraid to give up the big play by blitzing?

After the second or third 40+ yard pass I thought we should have brought some more guys to get pressure. I was pleased that we eventually did that in the 2nd half; just a bit annoyed that we didn't adjust sooner.

Campbell was actually pretty dangerous. I could tell that we were doing our best to get to him for a sack or two, but the Cleveland offensive line is pretty damn good. Even when we were getting good pressure almost directly off the snap, Campbell managed to get the ball out of his hands before we could do anything.

Jason Campbell is a former first round selection. He is a career 61% passer with a career 83 QB rating with a 78-52 TD/INT ratio. He came up under Joe Gibbs. He's no slouch.

Case Keenum was a very good QB at Houston. He's very mobile. The Chiefs had absolutely no game film on him. Instead of sending his pass rushers after him to start the game, Sutton played it "safe", watched him play, then went after him in then second half. Had he done that in the first half, it's possible that Hali and Houston would have tired substantially.

At the end of the day, it's not about stats for the defense, it's about the points on the board.

Hope they look equally as good against Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

Our RG was playing tackle against Indy. Franklin was back last week against Washington though so he'll play against KC.

I still don't know what the hell happened against the Browns. I suspected Campbell may have some success because he's capable, but he looked down right dangerous at certain points.

The Chiefs haven't faced a real QB in so long they won't know what to do with themselves when they come to Mile High.

I mean, Tony Romo only put up 500 yards and 5 td's on you.

Yea, never seen a real QB.
