When reports emerged that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson missed practice and traveled to South Dakota due to a “medical issue involving [a] young family member that likely will be a police matter,” several tipsters linked the news to reports from Sioux Falls of a man named Robert Joseph Patterson charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant, who is in critical condition.

TMZ reports that the link indeed exists, and that Peterson’s two-year-old son is in critical condition after being severely beaten, allegedly by Patterson.

Per the report, Peterson’s son suffered severe head injuries.

We continue to wish Adrian Peterson and his family the best as they deal with, if the report is accurate, an unimaginable situation.

I'm not a parent, and I don't have a lot of experience with infants. I just don't see how anyone's instinct would be to hit and/or shake a baby in order to get them to stop crying. Even if it's your frustration of not being able to quiet the baby, how in the hell is beating/shaking it going to help your situation?

Dude was a 25 year old millionaire when he tore is knee to shreds and spent his New Years in the hospital recovering for the next season. Hes very religious and always praises God- I actually read a story recently that he was pissed off because a team had game planned specifically to sto him (and succeeded) so he was cursing. Apparently the dude doesn't even use curse words.

In any case, I hope the kid recovers with no lasting effects.

When my first son was a baby he had colic...and cried and cried at night. After a week of sleep deprivation and walking the floors with him, while I never acted out, I saw that someone snapping in a situation like that didn't take the quantum leap I thought it would.

There were a couple of times where I had to just leave one of my twins in her crib....and I had to go somewhere where it was at least semi-quiet. It wasn't my best moment.....but there was no way I was going to be able to stay in that room at that time.

this kid is ****ing TWO. I severely doubt he was crying because of colic. That shit can be frustrating sure, but it IS a HUGE quantum leap to snap. My daughter had terrible acid reflux and cried constantly. I never had the urge to hit her because she was in pain.

The margin separating anger and acting out on anger is a lot thinner than people think. And sleep deprivation makes it far worse. Most people without infants have never dealt with sleep deprivation or a child screaming in their face for two hours straight. Let alone both at the same time.

Always the best course of action. If you feel yourself getting frustrated after not sleeping etc, ALWAYS but the baby down for a minute and calm youself.

EVERY parent has done that more than once. If they say they haven't - they're lying.
