Game of Thrones Books

Anyone read these? I just finished book 5. I'm going to be jonsing now for the next couple years until Martin comes out with the next book.

Yes, there are already a couple of threads about them.

Here's one about the HBO series: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=196570

And here's one about A Dance With Dragons: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=244692

Song of Ice and Fire. And yeah there's a couple of HUGE threads about them.

I started reading when the HBO series started. (It's amazing.)

I don't have HBO, watched part of the 1st episode on Youtube today. Started reading the books last month and just couldn't put them down.

Have you read all 5?

DaFace 10-18-2011 09:15 PM

Yep.

I'm 1/2 way through the 4th. Word is Martin takes his time... so I'm not in a hurry.

If you get a chance, buy the DVDS of the series (when they come out), torrent it, or whatever you do. It's fantastic.

I am going too. A buddy of mine has them already on the computer(shhh) and I am getting them tomorrow.

It's going to be a long, suck ass wait for the next book. He isn't even supposed to start it until next year.

I don't think I have ever been so engrossed in a story. Martin does a helluva job keeping you on edge. Everytime I think there will be some sort of closure things take a different turn. Book 6 has to start closing down some of the plotlines though. I can't see how he is going to do it all in book 7?

You'll love Tyrion (Peter Dinklage)

He won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor.

I saw that. I wish they couldhave used contacts though to give him the discolored eyes. That would have been a nice finishing touch on him. Tyrion is one of my favorite if not my top favorite characters.

Yeah, I only read the books during my lunch on weekdays (after reading AGOT in about a week and missing all kinds of details). I'm trying to savor as much as I can now and go as slow as possible because it gives me something to look forward to every day I'm at work. I broke down and had to read the last 1/3 of ASOS like a maniac but I'm back on pace with AFFC. Bout 700 pages in and ****ing hating the everliving shit out of Cersei (I was naive enough to think GRRM would try to make her likable when I first saw there was going to be a chapter from her perspective). :D

I'm a little over half way through A Dance with Dragons. So far, I've enjoyed all 5 books. If you're a fan of a lot of multi-novel fantasy series, then you're used to reading books that are less than stellar later on (or perhaps in the middle) of the series. While some critics bash books 2, 4, and 5 of the Song of Ice and Fire; none of these books fail to have the same great writing as the best books of this series. Admittedly, those 3 novels move a bit more slowly than the other two and aren't always as epic- they certainly still have a lot of awesome parts. None of them are complete disappointments the way we get some let downs in the Sword of Truth and Wheel of Time Series. The Song of Ice and Fire is a great series, and might become my favorite fantasy series. Let's just all pray that George RR Martin lives to finish his story.

My wife was only able to make it through A Game of Thrones, so I doubt she'll attempt to read A Clash of Kings. However, it must have made an impression on her because when she brought me my Dutch Bro's mocha coffee today, she had them write "milk of the poppy," on the side. LOL!

Here's a cool article from GRRM about the show and the latest book:

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment...is_favori.html

He plays it pretty close to the vest, but it's good to know that he'll be back working on book 6 in just a few months.

Not sure if anyone posted this, but tower of the hand is a great resource while reading each of the books, and reviewing past events:
