Mr_Tomahawk 08-09-2013 08:49 PM

Can't be much worse...

lewdog 08-09-2013 08:52 PM

Better still meaning rarely competitive???

Pasta Little Brioni 08-09-2013 08:53 PM

Aren't they already 1-0 after the Spring Game victory?

TribalElder 08-09-2013 09:00 PM

Yes

gblowfish 08-09-2013 09:09 PM

No.

lewdog 08-09-2013 09:11 PM

Maybe so.

It would almost--almost--be impossible to be worse, so choices left are "same" or "better." I guess I'd bet on "better."

They could bring back Turner Gill....

Chiefs Pantalones 08-09-2013 10:31 PM

Yes but we won't be that much better. Maybe 5 wins.

Deberg_1990 08-09-2013 10:33 PM

They will win 2 games....so yes.

5 wins would be a lot better. I assume anywhere between 3-5 wins. Does Vegas have lines out yet?

DeezNutz 08-09-2013 10:44 PM

I would assume so. Have you seen that pile of crap out there?

Nah, it will be a pile of crap again.

Bambi 08-10-2013 02:56 AM

Who has more wins? KU or the Chiefs?

Serious question.

Oh yea, and throw Mizzou in there too.

Just a guess.

Lzen 08-10-2013 07:14 AM

Yes they will be better. QB play was dog shit last year. I anticipate Heaps being a big improvement. And yes they did get killed by some teams. But they also lost several close games. Forced TCU into 6TOs yet couldn't score a TD. Lost to Texas on a last second TD. Made a great comeback against OSU only to blow it at the end. Was ahead of Rice and just blew that game. Same with N. Illinois. They also had a tight game against TT and couldn't finish. These close losses are typically signs of a young or inexperienced but improving team.

I'm optimistic. Someone said 5 wins and I think that's fair. I believe they can become bowl eligible if these JUCOS pan out. A big if I know.

3.5 is what I've seen.

Saul Good 08-10-2013 07:31 AM

3-9

La Tech is likely to beat them in the non-con. I think they get a conference win somewhere, but I have no idea when. Heaps is the key. The team will be as good as he is. The conference has gone from nearly everyone having a really good QB to nearly nobody having one. If Heaps is for real, they could surprise some people.

This is probably pretty close to being accurate.

I think with some lucky bounces maybe we're looking at 5-7. Maybe.

BlackHelicopters 08-10-2013 09:29 AM

The only thing we do know going into the season is that KU games will draw their highest ratings from the Western half of Missouri. Like Chiefs sunday type ratings.

The good news is they get 5 home games and only 4 roads in conf play. Probably not a huge deal since we're in major rebuild mode but everything helps. We did lose at Tech in 2OT last year but for the most part road wins are hard to get at KU. Mangino did a great job winning big at home but Gill & Weis (so far) haven't even done that the past 3 years.

Oh, did TWC pick up the LHN?

Spicy McHaggis 08-10-2013 12:24 PM

In all seriousness, yes. Because Weis wasn't far off with the pile of crap comments.

Heaps has to be an improvement over Crist. McCay's had an offseason to work with him and hopefully will have developed some chemistry. They're pretty stacked at RB.

I'd say 3-4 wins, but a marked improvement in the quality of play.

They've had plenty of trouble doing that over the past 25 years since Snyder came. And the games aren't even close. Mangino made it close but we decided to fire him because we hated competitive football and wanted to suck instead.

You would think that, but people said the same thing with Crist last year. He just HAD to be better than Jordan Webb. Webb left, and Crist was worse. Can Weis evaluate talent at all?

Jack Harry said KU should cancel football, a couple years removed from winning the Orange Bowl. Yeah yeah, he's a senile old man but that would be like saying West Virginia should've canceled basketball a couple years after their FInal Four because they were so bad this year. Or if Wichita State struggles for a couple years after this. Hell by comparison to KU basketball, about 98% of programs should cancel the sport.

Saul Good 08-11-2013 09:47 PM

It's been a rough few decades for Jack. He had the Royals in '85 but that's about it. Not surprising he would build up his sports fandom by putting down others.

KU...? Maybe four wins at best.

To make matters worse, you have 1/2 the bowl wins and 1/3 the number of times being ranked in the final polls. Let that stew in your brain for a few moments.

Isn't glorious yet, but he's got it heading in that direction... Can't turn total shit into glory in even just a few years. This is the biggest fastest and strongest team he's had in Ames yet.. It's also the youngest and least experienced. He's been getting a lot better recruits.. But he should have a real good team next year assuming they play like most inexperienced teams this year. But they will probably be around 6-6 again this year.. Talent to do more, experience to do less.

GoChargers 08-12-2013 02:24 PM

Not sure how they could get much worse.

Side note: how the hell did Mack "The Coddler" Brown manage to keep his job another year after Kansas almost beat Texas? Are they really gonna let him clap his way through a couple more sad, mediocre seasons so he can eke past DKR's win count?

Did you know that KU set the record for most tie games by one team?

Did you know that KU hasn't won a full conference title since 1930 in the Big Eight?

Sorry, but Kansas fans should be the last fanbase to be talking smack about college football. Your program is one of the worst in the FBS. KU football is a waste of a spot in the Big 12 that a better program like BYU or Boise would actually deserve and make the most of.

Yeah, because KU probably wouldn't have been able to compete in the conferences that BYU and Boise State competed in.

KU is no different than Missouri, Iowa State, Okie State, Baylor or KSU historically. The only one of that group who can talk any legit smack on KU right now is K-State thanks to Snyder's 20-year run. Look up the numbers.

BYU and Boise wouldn't be much better over the long-haul playing in the Big 12. Maybe marginally better.

KU? Oh hell we got it made in the shade this year. Conference domination. BCS domination. I smell roooooooooses!

Eleazar 08-15-2013 08:30 PM

all BS aside, if Weis is able to wrench that program out of last place this year it will be a major accomplishment. Has the cupboard ever been more bare, talent-wise?

He can run an offense, no doubt about that, but running a whole college program is so much more than that. It's a big job for even the best.

ChiliConCarnage 08-16-2013 06:07 AM

I felt like they were actually improved last year but a combo of no ability to throw downfield and horrific junior high level kicking wasted our solid running game. By the midway point of the year Weis basically gave up on attempting FGs most of the time and just started going for it on 4th down.

Charlie totally pulled a Bowden last year. Let's hope he got a kicker.

KU might be better, but that's like saying a dog turd would smell better with some Febreze sprayed on it.
