It's not like it used to be, but when I grew up it was considered "Satanic."

I'm nearly 40 years old, and I still won't tell my mom I play D&D, because she thinks it's satanic to this day. I just tell her we play various complicated board games (which we do that as well) on our game nights. Heh.

As a kid, I was once disallowed from going over to a friend's house ever again because my mom found out we played D&D at a sleepover there.

Late 70s and early 80s. I'll also never forget when we had a revival at the church, and some traveling snake oil salesman got everybody on the secret Satanic backmasking messages on albums. My parents came home and burnt all my brother's vinyl. Man was he ever pissed. I was young enough that I fully supported the purging of satanic music from our household.

I also wasn't allowed to watch Smurfs (satanic), listen to the radio, or watch most TV.

I can tell you that is absolutely not true, I played a lot through my youth.

I took my kids to see a live production of Scooby Doo. It was a national touring act that . I texted my wife at one point during the show, "Daphne is making me horny." She wasn't amused... sadly I wasn't kidding.

I played plenty when I was young too but video game consoles pretty much killed D&D.
About the only people playing it now are old geeks that played it back in the day.

I know a few of them, one still GM's on the weekends. Much easier to just use the computer to play those games nowadays.

Ok well you got me there, the DM/GM guy I know had some incredible campaigns. Problem is everytime we became too powerful he just killed us off. We then proceeded to play L O L ..A powertrip version of D&D called Lords of the Ludicrous.

Not true AT ALL. My nephew and all of his gamer friends are starting to get into European style board games as well as starting to get into tabletop RPGs. They still console more than anything, but they like the social nature of hanging out at a table playing together as well.
