Gary Oldman signs up for RoboCop
Gary Oldman Joining MGM's 'Robocop' Remake
Gary Oldman has inked a deal to star opposite Joel Kinnaman in MGM’s remake of Robocop. Jose Padilha is directing the film, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Kinnaman (The Killing) plays the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation. The production is eyeing a September shoot in Toronto and has a tentative release date of summer 2013. |

Well, that's a step in the right direction. Oldman is one of my favorites.

Joel Kinnaman is interesting casting. Love him on The Killing

The first Rated R movie that my dad let me watch. I LOVED that movie as a kid!~
I did re-watch it a couple months ago and I have to say as an adult that it had some really stupid parts. I'm not disappointed in a remake, as long as they make it dark and realistic. I'd like to see Christopher Nolan do it. I'd buy that for a dollar. |

Keanu Reeves as Robocop, coming to a theater near you.

i dunno but ill watch pretty much anything with oldman in it

I think the cast is what made the original awesome, so that is going to be pretty hard to top.

Oldman is like the most underrated actor ever. I'm excited for a Robocop reboot, I just hope it's good. God, I really haven't seen the movies since I was a kid. I'm putting that at the top of my list.

I also got to wonder if this could be a "reimagining" of the story, even down to the Roboarmor/prosthesis to make it more battle plausible specifically the facevizor because I was always irked that his mouth and chin were exposed without any type of protection of armor or another blast proof material.

Samuel L. Jackson Joining 'Robocop'
Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of Robocop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie. Jose Padilha is directing the film, which sees Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title hero, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman has already been cast as his scientist-creator. Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world. |

Rumor around my office is that we'll be doing the post work on it. Helps that it's shooting up here. I'll certainly be working on it if it's a go.
|
The Old Man was a sort-of ally in the first movie, but the villain in the second. I'm guessing they're going to combine - or at least blur the lines between - him and Dick Jones in this remake.
Can't wait to see who they cast as Clarence Boddicker. I wouldn't mind them signing Kurtwood Smith again, actually. |
Sounds like the type of movie I'll drag my girlfriend to kicking and screaming and then she'll walk out having enjoyed it, similar to the Star Trek remake =)

No Hugh Laurie For ‘Robocop’ Remake
By MIKE FLEMING Friday August 24, 2012 @ 9:46am PDT Though he was expected to play the head of the facility that made the title character, Hugh Laurie is no longer going to star in the Robocop remake at MGM. The film, which stars Joel Kinnaman in the role originated by Peter Weller, is being directed by Jose Padilha and also stars Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish and Jay Baruchel. I’ve heard MGM is talking with a small group of actors to fill the role that Laurie was to play, including Clive Owen. |

Michael Keaton Joins ‘Robocop’ Remake
By MIKE FLEMING Wednesday August 29, 2012 @ 3:31pm PDT BREAKING: Michael Keaton has been set to play the role of Raymond Sellars in the MGM/Columbia Pictures’ RoboCop remake. Sellars is the CEO of the corporation that builds RoboCop, a role that Hugh Laurie was expected to play until he dropped out before consummating a deal. The film, a re-imagining of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven cult classic, is scheduled to begin shooting next month. RoboCop will be released on August 9, 2013. Keaton joins previously announced Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish in the Jose Padilha-directed film. “Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets,” said Padilha. |

Really hoping there is more to that suit then we can see. CGI heavy maybe
