****Official 2014 Alt-Mock Draft Game Thread ****

http://www.sportspickle.com/wp-conte...2/nfldraft.jpg

This is the draft thread for the 2014 Alt-Mock Draft Game. Because of the lack of participants, some people will be in charge of controlling up to 4 teams.

Rules are the same as the normal mock draft game.

1. 24 hours for the first 2 rounds.

2. 16 hours for the third round.

3. 12 hours for rounds 4-7.

4. PM the GM that is after you to notify them when their turn is up.

5. Bold your picks (feel free to add any commentary you might want to add, or pictures/ fake Mayock comments/ etc. You don't have to do it, it just makes it more fun to me.)

6. If your time runs out, your pick will be passed and you can make the selection any time afterwards.

7. If you know you will be gone for a while and you will be up soon, PM your mini-draft board to someone that you know will be online or someone who will be picking after you in that round.

8. If anyone else wants to hop in late and take over for some of the extra teams to lighten the burden on anyone who is currently participating in this mock draft, post in the sign-up thread for consideration.

9. No draft trades. We'll end up having some people who wait forever for trade offers if this is allowed and we just don't have the time for that. With less than 30 days until the draft.

10. Have fun.

Changes/Notes:

Roster update: SNR added, taking over Texans and Bengals.

Spoiler!

Ok cool let's get this show on the road

OldSchool 04-11-2014 08:54 AM

Kicking off the 2014 NFL Draft. The Houston Texans Select:

Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB, USC

http://i2.cdn.turner.com/si/dam/asse...-image-cut.jpg

I don't really like any of this year's QBs over the available skill players in the top 5. The only way that I was going to pass on Clowney, whom I believe is the most physically gifted DE I've seen in the 20 years that I've been a football fan, was if there was an Andrew Luck in this draft, which there isn't. I take Clowney and pair him up with JJ Watt to terrorize the AFC South for the next 8-10 years. There has been a lot of talk about Clowney's lack of effort or dedication but the fact of the matter is that he does everything that you ask of him; he just doesn't go above the call of duty like Jerry Rice would. However, I think you can bring him in and make him work with JJ Watt and push him to the level where he is not only more talented than everyone else, but also works harder than anyone else. As the Seahawks showed, defense and pass rush wins championships, the pairing of Watt and Clowney with a developing Whitney Merciles playing on the opposite end has the potential to be even more dominant in year 1 than the SF trio of A. Smith, J. Smith, and Brooks currently is. That will tremendously improve our chances to win games.

Mayock's Take: "When Clowney wakes up in the morning, he is the best defensive lineman on the planet. Now it just depends on him whether or not he capitalizes on that talent. You take him here and pair him up with JJ Watt on one side and Whitney Merciles on the other, who are you going to double team? He's a potential once in a generation type of talent and I don't think you can pass on that."

The Rams are on the clock.

OldSchool coming strong with pics and colored fonts. I knew you'd have made an excellent addition to the CP Mock. Now is your time to shine.

sfchief 04-11-2014 09:13 AM

The St. Louis Rams select:

Sammy Watkins Wr, Clemson

Clowney would be the pick here, but the Texans were smart enough to take him.

The Rams would love to trade down but not going to happen in this scenario.
They also considered Robinson, but Bradford need weapons and Watkins is everthing
you would want in a WR.

Ok stupid question how do you post a pic on here on mobile device

No probs.

Sfeihc 04-11-2014 09:22 AM

Welp, Clowney and Watkins were the two non-qb's I would have liked to see on-the-board for the Jags. Since they aren't the Jags are going to restack their board and look who comes out on top.......

With the third pick of the first round of the Chiefs Planet Alt Mock the Jacksonville Jaguars select Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M.

Yeah, if they went anywhere but QB with the draft turning out this way, it would be a huge surprise. However, there have been reports that they're looking at taking another OT in the top 5 even though they took Joeckle last year already. Apparently they really want to improve in the trenches, lol.

I agree completely. His personality doesn't help his cause in my eyes.

Cleveland Browns Select

Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville

While Bridgewater's arm is impressive, the poise, vision and touch he demonstrates could serve as a "how-to" video on effective quarterback play.

Critics will continue to point out Bridgewater's flaws. He is not as big or strong as Andrew Luck nor as nimble as a healthy Robert Griffin III. Among the quarterbacks potentially available in the 2014 draft, he's the most polished and accurate.

sfchief 04-11-2014 10:11 AM

Take away Mike Evans and that great line then add NFL closing speed and let's see what happens

sfchief 04-11-2014 10:12 AM

Cleveland fans shit themselves and slam a beer

chiefscafan 04-11-2014 10:19 AM

Are u saying it's a bad pick?? Cleveland is strong they need a qb. He had bad testing but don't forget he's a great qb.

He is a bootleg QB in the NFL. I think of Doug Flutie. Flutie may have actually be taller than Manziel. Manziel was measured at 5'11" flat.

The Franchise 04-11-2014 10:21 AM

The Oakland Raiders select Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida.

http://gamedayr.com/wp-content/uploa...sey-duke-3.jpg

Matt Schaub is not the answer....at least not for the future. The Raiders have a ton of cap space, so they can afford to bring in Schaub as a stopgap QB while Bortles takes that 1st year to digest the playbook and adjust to the speed of the NFL. When Bortles proves that he's ready to take over, generally sometime after Schaub throws his 7th pick 6, he'll get to take the reigns of the offense.

The Franchise 04-11-2014 10:21 AM

Do I really need to PM OldSchool? :D

OldSchool 04-11-2014 10:39 AM

With the 6th pick in the 2014 NFl draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:

Khalil Mack, OLB/DE, Buffalo

http://media.tcpalm.com/media/img/ph...01001_t607.JPG

The Falcons should be ecstatic if the draft turned out this way. They get a great player who fills a position of need and allows them to run a versatile scheme as Mack is very similar to Von Miller in his ability to play both stand-up LB and rush from a 3 point stance. The Falcons need pass rush help in the worst way and Mack provides them with that and more as the 2nd best defensive prospect, in my opinion, in this draft. He was one of my top 3 players and I couldn't pass on him for the Falcons.

Mayock's take (actual quote(s)):

“He’s one of the best two or three players in this draft. I’m going to tell you right now, I’d take him with the first pick. Khalil Mack can play anywhere in the front. If you put the tape on against Ohio State, he dominates Ohio State like nobody I’ve ever seen dominate them. He’s explosive off the edge, he’s tough, he’s twitchy, he’s got a little edge about him. When I watch him on tape I feel like he’s pissed off at the world, and I like that. Then you put on a tape, I think it was Kent State, and he drops into coverage like a safety, reads the quarterback’s eyes, undercuts a route, one-handed interception.”

Thought about taking Mack at 5.....but the ****ing Raiders need a QB.

They need everything, lol. I'm not too big a fan of Bortles, but with how everyone else is valuing him, he would be a no-brainer for the Raiders at 5. Which means that they're not going to take him in the actual draft, lol.

The Tampa Bay Buccanneers select Mike Evans - WR - Texas A&M

Not at all Cleveland would thrilled if bridgewater made it to them

chiefscafan 04-11-2014 11:52 AM

I like they energy manziel would bring to Cleveland but as a QB Bridgewater is probably a better qb. I love Smith but if Bridgewater dropped to our pick he'd have to be our pick.

I would take Bridgewater at #23 in a heartbeat.

That would be unbelievable if true. Why did they trade Eugene Monroe?

blazzin311 04-11-2014 12:27 PM

Well, lets see....the Vikings have all sorts of problems and holes to fill at this point. While they would have loved to have Drafted one of the Top 3 QBs on the Board, there isn't another QB in my opinion, worth taking in the First Round. So the Vikings must look elsewhere. The can definitely use help on the Defensive side of things. The two Primary Key Areas they were lacking on Defense last Season were in their Secondary, and also their Linebackers.

So after some Consideration, the Minnesota Vikings select, C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama....Mosley would certainly be an Upgrade over the Trio of Players the Vikings had last Season at that Position. He is Fast, Smart, and a Good Tackler, leading Bama' in both Tackles and Tackles for Loss in 2013. He's arguably, the best Open Field Tackler at the Linebacker Position in the Draft, which is something the Vikings Linebackers have had serious issues with the past few Seasons. Mosley also has the versatility to play Inside or Outside in the Vikings Scheme. The only real knock on the guy is his Durability Concerns. He was banged up on and off during his Time at Bama', yet he still only missed about 3 Games in his Collegiate Career.

The Franchise 04-11-2014 12:32 PM

Greg Robinson and Jake Matthews still being on the board make this a tough selection but Cordy Glenn is a damn good LT and I'm not drafting a ****ing RT at #7. Evans would have been the pick but I believe in a WR group of Stevie Johnson, Robert Woods, Mike Williams and Marquise Goodwin. I'm going to add a different type of playmaker for E.J. Manuel though.

The Buffalo Bills select Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina.

No clue man. Just read about them possible taking another OT in the 1st because they are "serious about becoming dominant in the trenches". If Watkins and Clowney are gone, I would not be surprised.

OldSchool 04-11-2014 12:36 PM

Lions, Titans, Giants, and Rams are going to jizz themselves if the draft fell this way.

The Franchise 04-11-2014 12:40 PM

I thought about taking Robinson for a second just because he'd be a beast of a RT....but **** man....I absolutely hate wasting a top 10 pick on a RT.

Haha, I would have taken Robinson in a heartbeat. Nothing helps a young QB more than extra time in the pocket. Plus, Robinson would make Spiller a very happy RB.

I don't know how long we're drafting for, but does it stand to reason that we can kind of space out the "rounds" a bit.. As in let all participants know that rounds 3-4 will take place Thursday-Friday of next week for example?

Just from experience.....that's impossible. People get busy, emergencies occur and some people are on different schedules.

The Lions need several upgrades in their secondary, and to me that starts with obtaining a #1 Corner. The Lions select,

Justin Gilbert - CB - Oklahoma State

Yeah, but they do need a lot of secondary help still. However, Barr in the wide 9 might be too good to pass up. If they're still running it that is.

Sfeihc 04-11-2014 06:29 PM

Just what I'm hearing locally is that they want a OLB who can rush the passer.

They definitely need an upgrade on the strong side, but a pass rushing OLB in what amounts to primarily a 4-3 isn't exactly a necessity as much as a nicety. They would be better served making a move later for Van Noy in my opinion.

Either way, my needs board doesn't have an OLB listed until #6, but if the right player fell in the right place I wouldn't hesitate to draft him. I don't think Barr offers that type of value in the top 10 though. I think they are silly to go anything but defensive back at #10, they are atrocious there.

Of course, this is the same group that completely ignored their offensive line problems for a decade as they drafted bust after bust.

Barr at 11 is exactly what I have in my updated mock draft I'm getting set to put out. I think he fits what they are trying to do in Ten. Good pick.

Chief Roundup 04-11-2014 06:45 PM

Barr was a pure BPA pick. I don't believe he will be there in the real draft , but they are more likely to take Gilbert if he is there which is much more likely.

Nice, you're also up for the Rams.

sfchief 04-11-2014 08:02 PM

The Rams race to the podium and select:

Greg Robinson OL Auburn

Taylor Lewan was a consideration for the Rams and Giants.

I know some here think of Robinson as a Rt but he is going to be an all-pro Lt

The hardest part was picking between the 3 as to they grade out pretty close. I ultimately went with who I thought these teams would actually pick.

Pittsburgh Steelers select

Darquez Denard CB Michigan State

Doesn't panic, instead reaching to rip the ball away as the receiver attempts to catch it. Good ball skills. Locates the football and shows the hand-eye coordination to pluck it outside of his frame. Very good awareness and competitive spirit against the run. Fights through blocks and will take out the knees of oncoming blockers if necessary to leave teammates in position to make the splashy play. Physical and reliable open-field tackler who wraps his arms to secure the stop.

With the 16th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select:

Aaron Donald DT Pitt

http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/b...02/8042622.jpg

Sfeihc 04-12-2014 07:00 AM

Roundup, I thought very seriously about taking Donald for the Lions in the CP Mock. So they could let Suh and Fairley walk or maybe but very unlikely try to trade one or both of them. Fairley only plays when it's time for money. The Lions declined his option for 2015 making this a contract year for him and well, Suh is a monstrous douchebag.

Chief Roundup 04-12-2014 07:02 AM

I was surprised Aaron Donald fell this far. With the Cowboys losing Ware and their DT they needed help badly. Donald can play multiple roles which should give the Cowboys some versatility.
