OK, this made me laugh....

Story from a buddy of mine who's a Chiropractor:

An old man was in my office today. He was telling me he bought a new washer & dryer. When he replaces these items, he always is very careful to take them out of the boxes and not tear them up.

Next, when he goes to get rid of his used washer\dryer, he packs them up in the those boxes he was so careful with. He loads them in his truck and goes to the bar and has two drinks. When he comes out, they are gone.

"It always takes two drinks." he says, and he's been doing this for years. "Works every time."

Don't stores generally haul the old ones now? Sounds like he's using this as an excuse with the Misses to have two drinks.

When we got our new washer at Lowe's, we had to dispose of the old one ourselves. Of course, we lived 90 miles away so didn't have them deliver.

Depends. If you buy from Sears Outlet, Home Depot or Lowe's, you can have them load them into your truck right there. No installation fee or haul away fees.

I've always had the store pick up the old ones, though. Worth the $ not to mess with it.

For us, it would have cost over $100 for them to deliver the new one and drag away the old one. For us to take the old one to the dump was $7, so a no brainer there. It was a front loader, though, so a heavy mofo.
