I don't think the point is Rivers is "trash". The point is one is declining the other is ascending.

I'm going to be truly shocked if Alex Smith proves to be an ascending player.

He's a bit young to be declining. I'd tend to lean more toward's Frazod's "loser mentality" comment than any kind of physical dropoff from a 31-year old QB. That's still a few years away unless he's got some kind of hidden arm or shoulder problems.

All in all, I'd say it's more of a reflection of a declining team than a declining player.

Over the past 2 years, Smith has been getting better while Phyllis is getting worse. In this scenario, I'd take Smith
