Live To Be 80

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab test, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age. Hoping for a little more insight into my medical future I asked him, "Do you think I'll live to be 80?"

Looking up from his handful of documents and squinting at me above his reading glasses he asked, "Do you smoke tobacco or drink beer or wine?"

"No," I replied, "and I don't take any non-prescription drugs."

He nodded and continued, "Do you eat steaks, barbecued ribs, and other red meat?"

I said, "No, my former doctor told me red meat is unhealthy."

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?"

"No, I don't."

He added, "OK, do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have lots of sex?"

"No," I said, "I don't do any of those things."

He threw the papers on his desk and exclaimed, "Then why do you give a sh*t?"
