Needless to say, Fariba and I are devastated. :(

Phobia 08-14-2011 11:07 PM

It's okay. He's knocking boots with 72 virgin pussies as we speak. Get yourselves another cat. Don't ever give it a lion cut. Just some helpful advice.

Extra Point 08-14-2011 11:07 PM

Sorry for your loss, Frankie, mom, and kids.

Gonzo 08-14-2011 11:07 PM

You lost a lion, dude? That's a big ass cat bro.

Sorry for your loss man. Tough to lose a pet.

DaFace 08-14-2011 11:09 PM

Sorry for your loss, but that lion hair cut creeps me out.

Extra Point 08-14-2011 11:12 PM

In an alternate thread, Phobia would help mourn the loss of a pedigreed Pomeranian. Just goes to show you that he needs an optometretrist visit.

Bad ass maybe. Big ass, no. He was only 7 Lbs. Looked a lot bigger unshaven. But all fluff.

I have been very sad for the loss of any pet I have had, but I had never openly cried for one. But I'm not ashamed to say that I have cried tonight literally out of tears. Fariba too. Sammy was very very very special. Unbelievable personality along with that very unique freak of nature look.

Sorry to hear this Frankie. Soon enough your sadness will turn to fond memories.

Buck 08-14-2011 11:47 PM

Sorry Frankie.

What happened? Isn't 11 years old very young for a cat?

Yes it is. He got sick almost 2 weeks ago and quit eating. Blood work and X-rays ruled out serious stuff. Although his vet did say she heard a little heart murmur and it could be his heart was slightly enlarged. To combat any possible infection he was given antibiotics which fixed him in 48 hours. He started eating and gained weight quickly.

Fast forward to today. About 3 Pm we came home from shopping and found him on his side on a three ring binder I had left next to the couch. His mouth was agape and his eyes were unusually wide open. When I picked him up his hind half and legs were dead. He came to and facially acted normal except he could not get up due to his legs. Long story short, we ended up at the animal emergency room. He was (best guess) diagnosed of having feline saddle thrombus. Evidently blood cloth had formed in the main artery leading to his hind side. That in turn affected his kidneys and liver and lactic (?) acid was attacking his system. At that prognosis and the fact that they were very negative about his chances we approved their recommendation to put him to sleep.

This is a very painful night for us. I'm trying to stay realistic and remind myself that he was only a pet. But as pets go, he was by far the most special, smart, communicative pet I've ever had. I miss my son's toddler days, but Sammy just felt like my permanent toddler.

Just Passin' By 08-15-2011 12:34 AM

My condolences.

I have a long hair cat too. I like the lion cut, but it shouldn't be shaved bald imo. Makes it look funny.

Sammy was a freak. He had extra long heir on top of his head. Persians are long-hair but the hair on top of the head stays short. In case of Sammy, the abnormality combined with his coloration and body shape (narrow behind) perfectly lent itself to the lion cut.

I hear you; I'm sure most of us have had a pets that are literally part of the family, but one stands out as being very special. We had to put down our 11-year old boxer a few months ago, and I was devastated.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss

Bwana 08-15-2011 06:27 AM

Sorry to hear that. Losing a family pet is never easy.

Losing a pet is always tough. Sorry for your loss.

And I agree with DaFace, that lion cut is creepy.

Hydrae 08-15-2011 07:10 AM

Sorry to hear of your loss, Frankie. 11 is too young for an indoor cat.

Fire Me Boy! 08-15-2011 07:13 AM

My condolences Frankie. Pets can be part of the family, no doubt about that. Sammy looks and sounds like he was a cool dude. Soon, your sadness will be replaced by good memories. Once you've had time to mourn, go give another kitty a loving home.

Dayze 08-15-2011 07:48 AM

sorry to hear man. that sucks. Hang in there.

JD10367 08-15-2011 07:55 AM

Losing a pet always hurts, no matter what the pet. Cat, dog, bird, hamster, whatever. If it's yours, and you loved it, it hurts.

Oh, yeah, and...

Is that picture real? It looks fake and odd. I'm not trying to accuse you of anything so don't take it like that, but the picture looks really weird, especially in the cat's eyes. Did you run some kind of weird photo editing on the picture or something?

Frankie- I had a dog that passed away around 15 years ago, and I know it really sucked losing that "best friend".

Sorry for your loss. Will you get another right away or wait awhile?

It took me about 10 years to get another. I had forgotten how much work there was in having a big dog.

OK then that would explain it. It kind of looked like you had the cat taken to a taxidermist or something.

We still have Puya (picture, below). But we are staying a one cat family for the foreseeable future. Puya, however knows he's a pet and acts accordingly. Sammy truly had enough self esteem to consider himself having the same rights as the humans in the family. He would tell us with different meows what he wanted or didn't want. :D

Puya is descended from a blue ribbon winning show cat. Sammy I'm sure was some breeder's runt of a litter. His body shape (more stream-lined lion shape) and freaky hair made him totally wrong and he/she gave him away to a family who soon decided they could not keep a cat along with 4 little kids. Only fate put us and this family on a crossing path and Sammy became our very happy fortune.

Cats suck. I'm sorry but it's true. Example? Mr Jinks, he didn't give a damn about that wedding. Sylvester, has been terrorizing that poor mouse for decades. All he wants is some cheese. The mouse has got to eat too. Cats the musical? Queers. Crazy.

Sorry to drag this on. But our house is still in full mourning mode. Again I never thought I would do this much crying for a pet. WOW! And Fariba just could not go to work today.

Thanks you all for all the sympathy and warm words.

BTW, Here's Sammy's last goodbye last evening before being taken to "the other room." It breaks my heart every time I view it, yet strangely I'm glad I took it.

I'm not debating the validity of that rule, however... nowhere was it explicitly stated that this was either a prayer or thoughts thread. he merely stated that his kitty was gone and that he was sad. he didn't come out and ask for either prayers or thoughts, though you'll note that even I conveyed them before making the (admittedly rude) comment.

vis-a-vis, nothing would qualify for a bit of a vacation. technicality, I know, but the rules are the rules.

Uh oh...I could be in trouble.

Hope my post isn't mistaken for trying to be insensitive...I'm just so frustrated with my neighbor's cats (been going on for years...started a thread about advice for handling them years back). But whatever; I'll take my lumps if that's how it plays out.
