For those that might actually care.

MIAMI -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has died, a day after he was shot in the leg, said family friend Richard Sharpstein.

He said Taylor's father called him around 5:30 a.m. to tell him the news.

``His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me,'' said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. ``It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans.''

He said he did not know exactly when Taylor died.

Doctors had been encouraged late Monday night when Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand. But Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being transported to the hospital and that he wasn't sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand.

``Maybe he was trying to say goodbye or something,'' Sharpstein said.

The 24-year-old Redskins safety was shot early Monday in his home in the upper leg, damaging an artery and causing significant blood loss.

Miami-Dade Police were investigating the attack, which came just eight days after an intruder was reported at Taylor's home. Officers were dispatched about 1:45 a.m. Monday after Taylor's girlfriend called 911. Taylor was airlifted to the hospital.

Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Taylor's 1-year-old daughter, Jackie, was also in the house at the time, but neither she nor Taylor's girlfriend were injured.

``It could have been a possible burglary; it could have been a possible robbery,'' Miami-Dade Police Lt. Nancy Perez said. ``It has not been confirmed as yet.''

Taylor was shot at the pale yellow house he bought two years ago in the Miami suburb of Palmetto Bay. Taylor played at the University of Miami, where he was an All-American in 2003, and was also a high school standout in the city. His father, Pedro Taylor, is the police chief of Florida City.

Not saying what they did was right but I'm not black so I don't know how it feels to live with close minded assholes from the south. Attempted murder does seem too harsh though if the injuries weren't that life threatening IMO. Here's a little more info on it. http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/jena6.asp

Because hanging up a rope tied in a knot is equivalent to beating someone to a bloody pulp. Bob Dole isn't claiming the noose was in any way right, but to equate the two events is ridiculous. Oh that's right...Exodus does say something about "An eye for a slur, a tooth for a noose".

You make Jesse and Al proud. You've taken it hook, line and sinker.

And you trivialize the death of Sean Taylor by even tossing that political grandstanding bullshit in the discussion.

Ok, now I'll say what I think about all this.

Sean Taylor was 24 years old, basically had his entire life ahead of him. He was younger than me and I look at myself that way. This is hard for me, I'm bad with things like this, I don't know what to say. All I really know of the man was him as a football player, I loved watching him play, truly all world talent. But that really isn't important now, he has a young daughter that won't even know her dad now.

It's just tough, he appeared to be turning everything around. He went from being a perceived thug to helping out in the community and being a father. While becoming an elite player at his position it just seemed it was all coming together and then this....He had about as bright of a future as you could imagine and then it's gone just like that.

This shit is just so senseless, I thought he would pull through and now this is just so depressing to me. I wish the best for his family, I didn't know him but I'll miss him.

I went to bed at 11 last night hearing lots of optimism about Taylor. I woke up this morning and the first thing I hear on the radio is the news that he died.

Awful. It's kind of like DT -- you get some hope, let down your guard, and then BAM.

I really liked S.T. from back at his U of M days. His team mates all said he had finally gotten his head straight and gotten his life in order. To bad this had to happen. He could have been a great player in this league. I feel for his wife/GF and new born child.

Simply shocking & unreal...i figured that once he came to & responded to the docs request that he would make it.

Whatever the circumstances may have been, my prayers to his family.

Exactly what this reminded me of. You finally start to think this may not end up as badly as it could have been, and then wham. Over.

Just heard it on my way into work...terrible. Several people have mentioned that he had finally "gotten his head on straight" and "turned his life around" and I just think its sad that this happened to someone heading in the right direction even if he did have a rough past.

Dude you don't have a clue what happened here so why make this statement? Come on man, have some respect, his life is over at 24 and he has an infant daughter...
