HALEY

per rotoworld as of 2/3/09...

Cardinals OC Todd Haley reportedly spent considerable time on the phone with Kansas City officials last week.

Haley wasn't technically allowed to interview before the Super Bowl, but there's nothing stopping him from chatting with GM Scott Pioli, an old friend from their days together with the Jets. Haley is expected to formally interview this week.

No contact with the "Chiefs", just a chat with an old friend. That's all. :D

I think they'd call that tampering. I could see draft picks being awarded to AZ because of it if it's true.

Not if it's a "call between old friends."

Smoke and mirrors.

Hardly. I am guessing Arizona preferred this to an interview during the bye week.

well.... don't be surprised by Haley to Chiefs... nice ring to it Hail to Chiefs.

Well hopefully the formal interview can or has already been taken care of. We hopefully will find out this week, although I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear of anything till the first of next week with the Pro Bowl coming up.

What disappoints me about all the Haley rumors is that news stories are claiming that some of the minority candidates (like Leslie Frazier, for example) are turning down interviews because the feeling is that Haley is the guy. Which means we could missing out on someone better because of speculative media reports.

Whatever? If he's going to the pro Bowl, and he said he was, then he's probably not in the running for the job.

I don't follow. How is he not in the running because he's going to the Pro Bowl?

Besides, THE DEAL IS DONE.

First off Pioli could always formally talk to Haley at the Pro Bowl. Pioili will be there himself as we all know. Pioli and Haley had the right to talk via the phone if they wanted to last week, but they couldn't have a formal face to face interview until permission was granted. One would be naive to believe that stuff doesn't happen all the time.

Talking on the phone during down time wasn't going to affect how he coached during the Super Bowl. Remember John Clayton had said Haley had already been calling around to form his assistants if needed last week.

My guess was Cowher was the top candidate, but once he feel to the way side the last day or so, Haley then stepped into the #1 spot. One also could assume if we haven't interviewed a minority yet, we could do so at the Pro Bowl.
