FREE Astrophotography classes at Science City for teens!

Here's a free offer if you have kids that like astronomy or might. They can attend workshops to remotely program NASA observatories to take picture for them and then download the results and make their very own "Hubble" pictures. Easy interface and a ton more stuff about astronomy and how observatories work.

Oh and did I mention its funded by a grant from NASA and the Smithsonian so its free?

Take a look at the flier for times and if interested contact them to enroll as there are only 10 openings left. Starts next Saturday.

Here's a link for more information:

Capture the Colorful Cosmos is a program developed by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory which uses the Microobservatory Telescope Network to give teens opportunities to learn STEM skills in an engaging and creative way. Workshop participants will capture images of astronomical subjects using robotic telescopes stationed in Arizona and Massachusetts. The same techniques used by professional astronomers will be learned and used to produce full-color renderings of distant star clusters, galaxies, nebulae, moons, and planets. Digital media production techniques will also be learned and used by teens to assemble their works into a personalized digital media portfolio and collections of these works will be displayed publicly in the lobby of the Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station and at Kansas City Public Library branches.

Thanks to funding from the Smithsonian Youth Access Grant program awarded to Science City through the Smithsonian Affiliations Program and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Science City will be offering this workshop series free of charge to registered participants willing to commit to participating in an eight-hour workshop series hosted in Science City's Engineerium.

Saturdays, November 10th 2:00pm to 6:00pm November 17th 3:00 to 7:00pm

Shameless bump

Dave Lane 11-03-2012 08:29 AM

It's still free...

They normally charge $400 for a kid to attend.

Apparently...

Would be a cool deal I think.

Wow can't believe no one has any interest for their kids. Little unnerving...

If my daughter didn't have club volleyball tryouts those days, she might have been interested.

My daughter and I would be there if it was closer.
